3 Pre-requisites Restre the IFRS Starter Kit (r, instead, any applicatin with Legal Cnslidatin enabled, i.e. Business Rules based eliminatins and Ownership data). NB: Matrix Cnslidatin may be implemented in a similar fashin with a Finance type applicatin (i.e. withut Ownership data) but this will nt be described in this dcument. Intrductin Matrix Cnslidatin refers t Cnslidatin where nt nly the usual Legal entity dimensin is used but an additinal dimensin, such as Prfit/Cst Center r Business Unit is required. It is nt nly used fr perfrming sme breakdwn analysis, but eliminatins must be perfrmed based n this alternate dimensin. Using the IFRS Starter Kit as a starting pint, and its Cnslidatin applicatin, a new applicatin is then created, called Matrix. Cmpared t a regular cnslidatin applicatin, tw additinal dimensins were added, in rder t reflect the matrix cnslidatin aspects, i.e. Prfit Center and Intercmpany Prfit Center. As a result, we will hereafter illustrate what happens when: A prfit center perfrms intercmpany sales t anther prfit center frm anther Legal Entity A prfit center perfrms intercmpany sales t anther prfit center within the same Legal Entity. In bth cases, intra versus inter prfit center eliminatins will be discussed in rder t highlight the verall apprach and als see what are the limitatins t it. Knwn Limitatins In SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Cnslidatin (BPC), rganizatins (i.e. entities and grups/cnslidatin scpes) car vary accrding t Categry and Time. Hwever, all the ther dimensins are static, which means they have neither categry nr time dependency. As a result, the mdel presented here will use static Prfit Center and Intercmpany Prfit Center dimensins. Eliminatins (s called Autmatic Adjustments in BPC) are primarily driven by Legal Entity and Intercmpany dimensins. As a result, when it cmes t Matrix Cnslidatin, each eliminatin will still ccur based n this fact. S, basically, an eliminatin is triggered if bth an Entity and the Intercmpany entity are being cnslidated under the same nde (i.e. Grup r Cnslidatin scpe). In ther wrds, BPC des nt evaluate as such the Prfit Center and Intercmpany Prfit Center dimensins when it cmes t perfrming eliminatins. Amunts will be eliminated based n the Legal Entity view. Hwever, it is pssible t analyze and grup eliminatins by Prfit Center later n. As a result, Matrix cnslidatin will heavily leverage the reprting/filtering capabilities f the prduct. There are tw cnsequences f this: At reprting time, selectin f BOTH Prfit Center and Intercmpany Prfit Center is critical in rder t identify intra versus inter Prfit Center eliminatins. The eliminatin rule (fr bth triggering and calculating the % t be eliminated) is using entity and intercmpany methd and cnslidatin percents. This means that Prprtinate entity wuld nly eliminate the internal revenue, like 50% f the ttal revenue if that cmpany (and partner) has a 50% cnslidatin percentage. Secndly, if an entity is nly cnslidated with the Equity cnslidatin methd, then n eliminatin is perfrmed, even thugh intra entity revenues wuld be accunted fr in the bks (frm ne Prfit Center t Anther, within the same entity). Finally, the Matrix Cnslidatin mdel is leveraging a BPC functinality in rder t highlight hw intra Entity eliminatins can happen, which is a reflexive declaratin f intercmpany amunts. In ther wrds, a legal Entity will have Intercmpany transactins with itself as an intercmpany entity, but frm ne Prfit Center t anther. Based n these criterias and the entity cnslidatin methd, the eliminatin f the intercmpany amunt will happen SAP AG 3

4 The Step by Step Slutin What shuld be built in rder t achieve Matrix Cnslidatin: Setting up the Matrix Cnslidatin applicatin Using the Cnslidatin app, create a cpy r update the dimensinality in rder t later add 2 new dimensins: PrfitCenter (Prfit Center) and I_PrfitCenter (Intercmpany Prfit Center) In the dimensin library, add 2 dimensins PrfitCenter (Prfit Center) and I_PrfitCenter (Intercmpany Prfit Center). Please nte that these 2 dimensins d nt require any specific prperty t be set. Update bth dimensins with required members as per yur requirements (see the example belw). As a result, the eliminatin can take place during the cnslidatin prcess, as lng as the legal entity is assigned the prper cnslidatin methd which implies an eliminatin (Hlding, full r prprtinate cnslidatin). Hwever, the reprt selectin is key fr identifying intra Prfit Center eliminatins (n tp f having the Intercmpany Prfit Center hierarchy which mirrrs the Prfit Center hierarchy). As a matter f fact, in rder t restrict the eliminatins t a BU, fr a particular entity, the same Prfit Center and Intercmpany Prfit Center must be selected SAP AG 10

11 Hint: Such a reprt will be mre rbust if the current view is setup in a way that the Intercmpany Prfit Center selectin is derived frm the Prfit Center itself. In this example, the Intercmpany Prfit center is using a value being a cncatenatin f I and the Prfit Center frmula value. Anther methd t achieve the same gal (instead f using cncatenatin) wuld be t use a prperty f the Prfit Center telling which Intercmpany Prfit Center refers t it. This allws t perfrm dynamic selectins which are nt depending upn the cding applied t member IDs. Hwever, it is pssible t figure ut which way Intra versus Inter Prfit Center Eliminatins were perfrmed by selecting Prfit Centers and InterCmpany Prfit Centers prperly: Only USD 1000 was eliminated fr the BU20 Prfit Center as internal t that Prfit Center SAP AG 12

13 Cnclusin As emphasized many times thrughut this dcument, Matrix Cnslidatin can be achieved in BPC but the reader has t keep in mind sme limitatins. The mdel is driven by the Legal Entity dimensin but A Prfit Centers dimensin (and the crrespnding Intercmpany dimensin) can be setup and utilized t filter intra versus inter Prfit Center eliminatins; Hwever, eliminatins are still perfrmed accrding t the Legal entity (E type dimensin) and Grups (G type) dimensin. This setup is heavily leveraging the reprting capabilities f BPC where data must be smartly filtered in rder t achieve the desired analysis SAP AG 13
