3 3 Goals of the TEGGS project Improvement of the overall reliability of eggs: improvement egg classification and (further) reduction of fraud possibilities by implementing existing and developing new technology in the production chain By: Identifying chemical and biological marker(s) for the different categories of eggs Identifying (physical) egg properties that are unique to each egg Implementation of measurements of the selected physical and chemical properties in the production chain Storing the newly acquired information in databases Scope of the project: Dutch eggs, restricted to table eggs

4 4 Background EU 2002/4/EG: all A class eggs produced in the EU need to be printed with a code. This should happen as soon as possible, preferably at the farmer or at the first sorting station.

The ideal detection technique is one that is fast, shows high selectivity and measures the marker in a non-destructive way and can be integrated in an egg sorting machine.
