2 The Arts Education Master Plan incorporates the arts disciplines of Visual Art, Music, Theater and Dance. The plan is driven by NGSSS: Arts Standards and incorporates Common Core Standards relevant to delivery of quality instruction in the Arts. The Florida Department of Education has identified specific Common Core Standards related to each arts course. Those courses can be accessed through the Florida Department of Education CPALMS website. Broward County Public Schools Page 2
3 1. INDIVIDUAL TEACHER 1.1 NGSSS: ARTS BIG IDEA: CRITICAL THINKING AND REFLECTION 1.1. CLUSTER DESCRIPTION: Implement critical and creative thinking, self expression and communication 1.1 DESIRED OUTCOME: Arts teachers implement strategies for critical and creative thinking, self expression, and communication to support Common Core and content based learning in the arts classroom LEVEL 4 LEVEL 3 LEVEL 2 LEVEL 1 Engage students in Engage students in evaluation critique about their techniques that work and the work of require justification others with of artistic constructive products/process to discussion about the summarize and production/problem explain connections solving process to other content areas Facilitate the critiquing process (describe, analyze, interpret, and evaluate) to include cognitive and reflective analysis of artistic products/process applying/transferring knowledge from other content areas to support and defend conclusions/ judgments. LEVEL 4 LEVEL 3 LEVEL 2 LEVEL 1 Model the integration of all 21 st Century Skills in the delivery of instruction that require high levels of cognition, communication, collaboration, innovative thinking, organization, and technical fluency Incorporate technical fluency in the delivery and implementation of 21 st Century Skills. Apply 21 st Century Skills in the delivery of instruction that include collaboration, innovative thinking and organization Fail to include 21 st Century Skills that support innovation and risk taking to stimulate the imagination and prepare students for success in a global economy Broward County Public Schools Page 3
4 1.3 NGSSS: ARTS BIG IDEA: Skills, Techniques and Processes 1.3 CLUSTER DESCRIPTION: Refine technical skills for mastery and refinement 1.3 DESIRED OUTCOME: Arts teachers will refine and master technical skills related to their specific arts content area to further develop skills, techniques and processes that support learning, creation, mastery and refinement through purposeful practice LEVEL 4 LEVEL 3 LEVEL 2 LEVEL 1 Evaluate multiple forms of documentation that technical skills refined were purposefully delivered and practiced as evidenced through student performance/portfoli o showing student growth in their art form over time Promote student engagement in the process of artistic exploration, experimental learning and creating in the arts. Challenge students to continually practice and reinforce essential artistic processes that include remembering, focusing on and sequencing information in the creation of an arts form. Use student work to exhibit documentation that technical skills refined through training were delivered Structure lessons to support artistic exploration and experimental learning Practice artistic processes that include focusing on and sequencing information in the creation of an art form. Deliver technical skills learned in training with evidence of student growth through performance/portfolio Focus on artistic exploration in the classroom Differentiate artistic processes related to focusing on and sequencing information (and cumulative steps) in the creation of an art form. 5 Data Collection Plan End Goal of plan: Arts teachers will advance in technical skill and develop strategies to support critical/creative thinking and the implementation of Common Core. Teachers will increase one level of mastery annually through participation in professional development aligned to their professional development plan and school goals until proficiency is exhibited. What type of data needs to be collected? Student products: portfolio & performance documentation Teacher reflection postings, images or productions What sources of data will help the investigation? Data uploaded electronically or provided through another electronic source Teacher postings, images or productions uploaded into a site Are the data available or do new data need to be collected?
