2 TH 534 Christian Worldview January 7-11, 2013 An introduction to the concept of worldview and the lineaments of the Christian worldview and Christian mind. The course will include both an introduction to the way that Christian belief impacts all Christian thinking as well as a critical analysis of major challenges to the Christian worldview such as atheistic naturalism, postmodernism and consumerism. Three credits. Dr. Randal Rauser Dr. Randal Rauser is Associate Professor of Historical Theology. A prolific writer, Dr. Rauser is passionate about developing a biblically sound apologetic theology that meets the challenges of secular western culture. His most recent book is The Swedish Atheist, the Scuba Diver and Other Apologetic Rabbit Trails (Intervarsity, 2012).

3 CE 532 Educational task of the church January 14-18, 2013 The study of intentional education in the organized church. This will include developing a philosophy, mobilizing resources, and evaluating the results of educational agencies designed to meet the needs of a fellowship of believers. Three credits. Prof. Su Jin Chong Prof. Su Jin Chong has taught Christian Education at Taylor (as well as Vanguard College) for a number of years; she was also recently appointed Registrar of Taylor Seminary.

4 OT 417 Old testament Introduction January 18-19, February 15-16, March Grande Prairie A Survey of the contents, message, form, and background of the Old Testament. Attention will also be given to the major theological themes in this literature. Students will also obtain an awareness of the different approaches and perspectives from which the Old Testament may be studied. Three credits. Dr. Jerry Shepherd Dr. Jerry Shepherd is Associate Professor of Old Testament, and is an enthusiastic Hebrew scholar. Dr. Shepherd is a published author and popular speaker.

5 PT 540 spiritual formation January 25-26, February 22-23, March An exploration of five classical Christian streams of spirituality from a biblical and historical perspective, with emphasis on practical application. Includes a spiritual retreat. Three credits. Dr. Allan Effa Dr. Allan Effa is the Ray and Edith DeNeui Professor of Intercultural Studies. His teaching and research interests include missions, evangelism, anthropology, spiritual formation, and African theology. Dr. Effa is an enthusiastic runner and cyclist.

6 NT 517 Gospel of Luke Online Winter 2013 An exposition of the English text of the Gospel of Luke, with special attention given to the distinctive features of this Gospel. Three credits. Dr. Syd Page Dr. Syd Page has been serving at Taylor since 1977, and served as Academic Vice-President of the seminary for almost 20 years. Dr. Page is Professor Emeritus at Taylor but continues to teach part-time, sharing a wealth of knowledge and experience from his career as a New Testament scholar.

7 TH 532 Systematic theology ii Online Winter 2013 A continuation of TH 531. A systematic study of major doctrines of the Christian faith. 8 Global Mission Study Tour April 30 - May 21, 2013 Taylor Seminary offers students an opportunity to study abroad each year. It is designed to expose students to diverse expressions of Christianity and/or other world religions. In 2013, a small group of students led by Dr. Allan Effa will travel to Zambia where they will explore issues of justice and social concern, including spending time with AIDS orphans and their caregivers. This will be an intensive learning experience, but time will be provided for a short sight-seeing tour to beautiful Victoria Falls, as well as for a safari in neighbouring Botswana. Three credits.

9 BI 514 Greek and Hebrew tools April 29 - May 10, 2013 An introduction to biblical Hebrew and biblical Greek that will equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for the proper use of the various lexicons, concordances, word-study aids, and critical commentaries. 10 PW 538 the art and craft of biblical preaching May 6-10, 2013 A study of expository preaching from a variety of biblical genres. Special attention is given to the art, science, and Spirit-led aspects of sermon delivery in the context of worship services. Furthermore, significant emphasis is given to in-class and out-of-class preaching with video. Three credits. Dr. Lyle Buyer Dr. Lyle Buyer has been teaching homiletics at Taylor for a number of years, and has been serving as Senior Pastor at McKernan Baptist Church for almost 20 years. An alumnus of Taylor (BAR, MDiv), Dr. Buyer recently earned his DMin from Gordon-Conwell.

11 TESOL courses TSL 411 Applied Linguistics I April 29-May 3, 2013 This course focuses on the lexical and sound system of the english language. It is primarily a theoretical course to enable the ESL teacher to understand and explain the vocabulary and pronunciation of English. Three credits. TSL 412 second language acquisition May 13-17, 2013 The theories behind the methods and techniques of teaching ESL will be covered. The nature of language, culture, second language acquisition, and teaching methodologies will be discussed. Three credits. TSL 413 Applied Linguistics II May 6-10, 2013 This course focuses on the grammatical system of the english language. It is primarily a theoretical course to enable the ESL teacher to understand and explain the language structures of English. Three credits. TSL 414 Methods and Materials May 21-24, 2013 A practical course dealing with the methods and techniques of teaching the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The communicative approach will be emphasized. Three credits.
