3 Degree: Master of Divinity Basic Assessment Information Purpose Statement Shepherds Theological exists to equip servant leaders for life and ministry by strategically shaping both intellect and character through biblical scholarship and personal mentoring. Master of Divinity Degree Purpose The purpose of the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree is to prepare men for ordained ministry and for general pastoral and religious leadership responsibilities in congregations and other settings. Traditional Master of Divinity Degree The traditional M.Div. at STS is structured in two basic categories: (1) a regular M.Div. with no area of concentration; and (2) a focused M.Div. with concentrations in Old Testament, New Testament, Theology, or Pastoral Counseling. Both require 96 credit hours. In order to earn an M.Div. with a specific focus, a student must complete at least credits (depending on the department) in one of the areas of concentration. A grade point average of 2.5 or better is required to graduate. Up to 40 hours of transfer credit is possible and the student must have earned a letter grade of C or better for a course to be transferable. The Registrar s office has oversight over all transfer credits. The regular or traditional course requirements are 80 credit hours plus 16 hours of electives. The four concentrations are distinguished by their required department electives. Advanced Placement Master of Divinity Degree The Advanced Placement M.Div. degree is designed for graduates of accredited Christian liberal arts colleges or Bible colleges, of similar faith and practice to STS, who wish to build on their undergraduate degree in Christian studies. This degree seeks to minimize the overlap between undergraduate courses and the seminary curriculum, as well as to enable the student to focus more on areas of the seminary curriculum in which he is most interested. For example, the student enrolled in the Advanced Placement M.Div. can concentrate in Old Testament, New Testament, Theology, or Pastoral Counseling if he wishes. This degree program also offers the student more than twice the number of elective courses that the traditional M.Div. program allows. In addition, the student considering entering the Master of Theology or other advanced degree program in some area of theological studies will be able to begin that degree one to two semesters sooner than he could with the traditional M.Div. degree. The Advanced Placement M.Div. has a total of 78 required hours with up to 39 hours of advanced placement. Master of Divinity Assessment Team 1. Will Coberly Director of MDiv Degree Program 2. Are required courses being taught by faculty with appropriate qualifications? ; course syllabi Alumni career positions & survey See Faculty table above The degree is sufficiently guided by a biblical and theological framework, particularly reflected in its core classes and the theological foundation of its counseling courses MDiv graduates are ministering within the local church effectively. Minimal data available, but one student has already earned a PhD after finishing at STS. Those who elected to write a M.Div. thesis have demonstrated adequate preparation. More hours and required courses clearly distinguish it in depth and range. Language courses especially must be taken in proper sequence. Almost all required courses are taught by professors with doctorates in their respective fields and specialties. Some counseling courses are taught by a M.Div or professionally and experientially qualified professor. Shepherds Theological Assessment of Degree Programs

Are the students receiving mentoring for spiritual growth? Alumni career records; Alumni survey Alumni career records See mentored projects by graduates. The degree is sufficiently guided by a biblical and theological framework, particularly reflected in its core classes and the theological foundation of its counseling courses The STS M.A.C.M. is clearly more academically and professionally geared than some of the benchmarked programs. Several graduates are ministering within the local church effectively. The M.A.C.M. opens up opportunities even with recourse to the M.Div. (Andy Smith completed Ph.D. at Edinburgh University) Contains a smaller core than the M.Div. and offers more specialization while a shorter length for completion. Almost all required courses are taught by professors with doctorates in respective fields; some are taught by pastors with a ThM or higher (e.g. counseling courses) and who have a great amount of pastoral experience in this area. Based on the mentoring program requirements. Also see Director of Mentoring records of personal interviews and counseling. Shepherds Theological Assessment of Degree Programs

What are the budget requirements for next three years? MACM, MDiv, and ACM students take classes together, so class sizes are typically well enrolled. Continued growth and interest. No major changes anticipated after the 2013 adjustments Minor documented differences would include: o Other schools reduce the credit hours for many of STS core classes, then offer more electives and specialty courses than STS o o o o Some offer an entire course on Evangelism versus incorporating into Apologetics or other courses Some require Intercultural Communication or Global Studies Some lack the Mentored Practicum or Apprenticeship Additional practical ministry related courses and electives may help STS become more competitive. 23 Degree: Associate in Church Ministry Basic Assessment Information Purpose Statement Shepherds Theological exists to equip servant leaders for life and ministry by strategically shaping both intellect and character through biblical scholarship and personal mentoring. Associate in Church Ministry Degree Purpose STS recognizes that every man or woman who desires to pursue a theological education may not have the necessary requirements to enter a master s program. Therefore, the Associate of Church Ministry (A.C.M.) degree equips students with the required knowledge, training and practical foundation to invest their lives in church or vocational ministry. The following areas of concentration are offered: Biblical Counseling, Biblical Literature, and Christian Ministry. Description of Associate in Church Ministry Degree The Associate of Church Ministry (A.C.M.) program is designed for those applicants who have limited or no undergraduate college credit but who have a commendable Christian ministry experience. In general, applicants have circumstances of life that make the acquisition of an undergraduate education impractical, but who would be greatly benefited in their service to Christ through the training achieved with this degree. The A.C.M. is designed to emphasize the position that the does not offer graduate Master of Arts degrees for students who have not completed a traditional bachelor s (Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science) degree program. No transfer of credit is typically given for the A.C.M. The curriculum is identical to a traditional M.A., but with a relaxed grading scale. Total required credit hours are 60, with a core of 37 hours in Bible Exposition and Theology. An additional 23 credit hours are required within the scope of the three concentrations. A minimum grade point average of 2.0 is required to graduate. Associate in Church Ministry Assessment Team 9. Will Coberly Director of MDiv Degree Program 10. Randy McKinion VP Academic Affairs 11. Course changes Summer 2006 NT Survey split into 2 courses (NT Studies I and II) Added Systematic Theology III Dropped OT or NT Theology requirement Adjusted hours on Internship to 2 and Apprenticeship to Course change January 2007 Adopted 2 expository preaching courses with part 1 replacing Creative Bible Teaching 19. Course change Fall 2007 Added Systematic Theology IV 20. B.Th. & D.Th. degrees dropped Fall 2009 Enrollment low; students not pursuing to completion 21. ACM degree introduced Fall credit hour program; 60 undergraduate credits to enter; same majors as MACM degree 22. Adjustment to degree Fall 2013 Total of 60 credit hours remains as before but with minor adjustment. Core was extended from 34 to 37 credit hours, and concentrations reduced from 26 to 23. Difference is accounted for by adding Hermeneutics (3 credits) to the core courses. Other minor changes were made to the three concentrations that resulted in dropping 3 credit hours in each (e.g., 2 credits removed by lowering counseling classes from 3 to 2 credit hours). Some counseling courses were changed by name (Human Personality changed to Human Personhood; and Problems and Procedures I was dropped and replaced with Counseling Families; Methods of Biblical change as added as a split off of a previous longer course). 23. Program reduction Fall 2013 Dropped the Th.B. and Certificate of Graduate Studies previous included with the A.C.M. under the listing of non-traditional programs offered. 24.
