He has been based in the Far East for nearly 14 years and has worked in London, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney. He joined Reed Smith s Singapore office when it was established in Barry s practice covers both advisory and disputes work in the shipping, commodities, upstream oil and gas (offshore energy), construction, mining, insurance and telecommunications sectors. He has been recognised for his work in the shipping, commodities and offshore energy sectors by the major legal directories and is ranked as one of the leading shipping/offshore lawyers in Singapore. His shipping practice covers dry bulk and tanker charterparties, long term contracts of affreightment, bills of lading, cargo claims, ship arrest, casualties, ship sale and purchase and shipbuilding. In the commodities sector, he has advised on and arbitrated disputes arising out of trading contracts for most soft commodities (including palm oil, grains, cotton, cocoa and sugar). Jody specialises in commercial dispute resolution, acting for global and regional clients across the shipping, commodities and insurance sectors. He has handled a broad range of contentious international trade disputes, often in conjunction with a variety of legal and technical experts, including naval architects, civil engineers, costs/claims consultants and counsel. On the dry shipping side, Jody acts for shipowners, charterers and P&I Clubs regarding charterparty, bills of lading and cargo disputes. He specialises in litigation and commercial arbitration in the shipping, commodities, construction, intellectual property and insurance sectors. He is admitted to practice as a solicitor and barrister in both the New South Wales Supreme Court and the High Court of Australia. In the shipping and commodities sector Elliott has acted for both charterers and owners in London and Singapore arbitrations relating to charterparty disputes, bills of lading disputes and newbuilding disputes. He has also acted on multimillion-dollar disputes regarding both soft commodities and oil and has extensive experience in handling arbitral proceedings under the LMAA, SIAC, ICC and ICA rules. His experience in construction disputes relates to both offshore oil and gas construction and onshore commercial construction in Singapore, London and Sydney. He has represented financiers in claims in the Supreme Court of New South Wales for professional negligence and delay against project managers, quantity surveyors and engineers. He has also been involved in disputes in relation to the design and construction of complex and purpose-built vessels. During his time in practice in Australia, Elliott acted for large financial institutions regarding claims for breaches of director s duties, oppression, breach of contract, professional negligence and breaches of consumer protection laws. He also handled contentious insurance disputes and advised in relation to coverage and intellectual property disputes relating to trademark infringement and passing-off. He specialises in large-scale international arbitration and commercial dispute resolution for global and regional organisations, with extensive and diverse experience in complex on/offshore construction, engineering and shipping disputes. His construction practice includes providing strategic advice to clients across industry sectors, including to both developers and contractors, to successfully resolve complex disputes relating to issues which may arise during the development and implementation of major oil & gas, mining and infrastructure construction projects. He also has significant experience in resolving shipconstruction disputes relating to highly specialised vessels, such as derrick, pipe-lay, fall-pipe and RoRo vessels. Ken's shipping and commodities experience includes acting for both owners and charterers on charterparty and newbuilding disputes, including claims for fitness for purpose, withheld hire and cargo-related matters such as lossinvestigation and quantity/quality claims. He has acted in major international arbitrations based in Singapore and Australia and has had extensive experience with the ICC, SIAC and LMAA. She has more than five years experience handling complex, multijurisdictional commercial disputes across a range of sectors in the maritime and commodities industries, and has advised shipowners, charterers and leading P&I clubs regarding commodities and cargo disputes, delay and breach of warranty claims, collisions, arrest, judicial sales, piracy, offshore contracts, conversion, repair and newbuilding contracts. Marie also has experience of LMAA and SIAC arbitrations and has worked with law firms in various jurisdictions regarding applications for search and freezing orders, Norwich Pharmacal orders, reorganisation claims to a courtappointed trustee (Tokyo District Court), pre-emptive injunctions (Malaysia High Court), CBIR applications (English High Court) and the establishment of limitation funds under the Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims On the transactional shipping side, Marie has assisted in drafting FPSO conversion contracts and has acted for clients in ship sale and purchase transactions.
