Day 1: You have $50 to start your business. Tash works with you. She engraves the that you sell. Each time you sell a boomerang, you give her $5. The sell for $20. You need to buy wood to make the. Each piece of wood costs $5. One piece of wood will make one boomerang. Day 2: The local woodmill is closing down soon. If wood is not available locally it will cost you more. You need to go and buy some stock for your business. pieces of wood did you buy? did you make? You go to market and sell half of what you made. How much do you owe Tash from the sales? How much money do you have now? do you have left to sell tomorrow? Day 3: The local woodmill is closing down soon. If wood is not available locally it will cost you more. You need to go and buy some stock for your business. pieces of wood did you buy? did you make? You go to market and sell half of what you made. How much do you owe Tash from the sales? How much money do you have now? do you have left to sell tomorrow? Day 4: A cyclone is predicted to hit your town tomorrow. What can you expect from that? How will it affect your business? You might need to take a day off and stay home where it s safe.
Day 5: Oh no! Power is out. How does this affect business? It seems Tash won t be able to do any engraving work as she uses a power engraver. What will you do today? Do you have any in storage that you can take to the market? If so, calculate what you make for the day. Day 6: Tash tells you that Aunty Alice has said that you have too much sawdust in your workshop again and it s very flammable. Will you work today, or clean the workshop? What would be the best choice? What would make you more satisfied? How much money will you make today? Fill in your budget sheet to show the result of your decision. Day 7: There is a flu bug going around. What will that affect? Do you need to plan ahead? How could you do that? What would you need to think about? Maybe you and Tash had better get some more made. You go to the mill and buy more wood. How much wood did you buy? can you make? If you have enough money in the bank, see if you can build up some stock and make about 30.
Day 8: Poor Tash has caught the flu. She can t come to work today so you can t make any more today. You go to market in the afernoon with the that you have in stock. did you sell? Day 9: The fire danger is high. You can either stay home today and clean your shed as the sawdust has been building up again and if there is a fire you will lose everything. Or you can clean up another day and go to market to sell more. You decide to leave the clean up till the weekend as there are a lot of people in town today. You go to market and sell your remaining. You need to remember that you owe Tash money for the you sold. How is your budget looking? Day 10: Oh dear, there s a fire in your workshop! You should have stayed home and cleaned yesterday instead of going to market! All your stock has been burned so you have nothing in storage to sell till you start making more. Lucky you sold a lot of the other day so you have some money in the bank to buy more wood and start again. How much wood did you buy? can you make? When you fill in your budget sheet, remember that all your wood and all your have been burned, so you have none left.
Day 11: Tash tells you that Aunty Alice has heard there are a lot of tourists coming to town. You better start building up those stocks again. Lucky you bought some more wood after the fire. Tourists coming to your town are very interested in your, so you better put in a really big effort and make as many as you can. How much wood do you have? did you make after the fire? can you afford to make? You might need a lot tomorrow at market when the tourists arrive. Day 12: Business is booming! Today you sold all the you and Tash have made since the fire. How much did you make? How much did you pay Tash? Day 13: The woodmill has closed down, but before it did the manager offered you some free wood. You now have enough free wood for 30. You and Tash are very busy today. You use all the free wood to build up supplies again. How will this look in your budget sheet? Day 14: You are sick today so Tash is working on her own. She goes and buys more wood to make into but now that the mill is closed your wood now costs $10 a piece. You have a lot to sell at the market tomorrow when everyone is on holiday.
Buy wood $5 How much did it cost? did you make? are in stock? did you sell? are left in stock? How much did you make? Pay Tash $5 for each boomerang sold Total balance for the day $ Day 1 $50 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 8 Day 9 Day 10 Day 11 Day 12 Day 13 Total balance in bank $ ACTIVITY: Profits and loss Day 14 (wood has gone up to $10 today) Day 15 TOTAL
