1 NOTE: All prerequisite courses must be from a four-year college. Doct of Physical Therapy (DPT) Undergraduate Prerequisites Transfer Equivalent General Biology With Labs 6 minimum Students applying with baccalaureate degrees from other institutions should make note that courses such as botany, zoology, microbiology, etc. are not acceptable f meeting the biology prerequisite. Acceptable courses must include some component of animal (mammalian) structure, function and development. General Chemistry With Labs 6 minimum Biol Structure and Function of the Human Body (E) 8 Biol General Biology (E) 9 Chem 112 Chem 113 (E) 6 and Chem 112L Chem 113L 3 BIOL (E) Structure and Function of the Human Body (Requires concurrent enrollment in lecture and lab) A general study of the anatomy and physiology of the human ganism, emphasizing the body s various codinated functions from the cellular level to integrated gan systems. Three hours lecture, two hours lab each semester. BIOL (E) General Biology (Requires concurrent enrollment in lecture and lab) A comprehensive study of the nature of living ganisms, both plant and animal, their structure, function, development and relationships, including the problems of development, heredity and evolution. Three hours lecture, three hours lab each semester. CHEM (E) General and Analytical Chemistry A study of the laws, theies and principles of general chemistry together with qualitative and quantitative analysis. Three hours lecture each semester. and CHEM 112L -113L 3 General and Analytical Chemistry Labaty (Lecture is required as pre- co-requisite; CHEM 112L is prerequisite f CHEM 113L) Experiments involve semi-micro techniques f qualitative and quantitative analysis (gravimetric and volumetric analysis). Mammalian Human Anatomy and/ Physiology 3 Mathematics 3 Phys General Physics (E) 8 Phys Elements of Physics (E) 8 Biol 245 Mammalian Physiology 4.5 Math 103 Pre-calculus Mathematics (Q) 4 Math 114 Analysis I (Q) 4 Math 221 Analysis II (Q) 4 PHYS (E) General Physics (Prerequisites: MATH ) General college course f pre-medical, predental, biology, biochemistry and physical therapy majs. Mechanics, heat, electricity and magnetism, sound and light. Three hours lecture and two hours lab. PHYS (E) Elements of Physics (Co-requisite: MATH ) Calculus-based introduction to the elements of physics. Topics covered: mechanics, heat, sound, light and electricity and magnetism. Required of Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science and Chemistry majs. Three hours lecture and two hours labaty. BIOL (O) General Physiology (Prerequisites: BIOL CHEM ; requires concurrent enrollment in lecture and lab) Physiological process underlying functioning of the animal ganism. Study of irritability, excitation, conduction, contractility, cellular physiology and functions of mammalian gan systems. Three hours lecture, three hours lab. MATH (Q) Pre-Calculus Mathematics An intensified course covering the topics of algebra, trigonometry, and analytic geometry. Not open to students with credit f enrolled in MATH 109 any calculus course. General Psychology 3 a higher level math Psych 110 Fundamentals of (S) 3 Psychology MATH (Q) Analysis I (Prerequisite: MATH 103 equivalent) The beginning of a 12-credit sequence covering the topics of calculus and analytic geometry. Limits, derivatives, integration. Fundamental Theem. PSYC (S) Fundamentals of Psychology An introduction to the scientific study of behavi through a survey of psychology s principal methods, content areas and applications. Course requirements include participation in psychological research preparation of a sht article review. 8/30/11 page 2

3 Doct of Physical Therapy (DPT) Undergraduate Prerequisites Transfer Equivalent Advanced Psychology 3 Psyc 221 Childhood and Adolescence (S) 3 Psyc 222 Adulthood and Aging (S) 3 Psyc 225 Abnmal Psychology (S) 3 Psyc 231 Behavial Neuroscience (E) Psyc 238 Exercise and Spt Psychology 3 PSYC (S) Childhood and Adolescence (Prerequisite: PSYC 110) Survey of psychological research dealing with the development and behavi of children. The physical, cognitive and social aspects of development, from infancy to adolescence, are considered. PSYC (S) Adulthood and Aging (Prerequisite: PSYC 110) Survey of psychological research dealing with the age-graded aspects of behavi in adulthood. Course will consider the physical, cognitive and social aspects of the aging process from late adolescence to death. Topics include occupation selection, marriage, parenthood, middle age, retirement and dying. PSYC (S) Abnmal Psychology (Prerequisite: PSYC 110) A comprehensive survey of mental and behavial disders from biological, psychological, and sociocultural perspectives. The course will consider diagnosis and labeling, overview of specific disders and various treatment approaches. PSYC (E) Behavial Science (Prerequisite: PSYC 110 BIOL ) Introduction to the field of neuroscience, examining the cellular bases of behavi, effects of drugs and behavi, brain/body crelates of motivation and emotion, and neural changes accompanying pathology. Three hours lecture and optional 1.5- credit labaty, PSYC 231L. Lab fee; lab offered fall only (also listed as NEUR 231.) PSYC238 3 Exercise and Spt Psychology (Prerequisite: PSYC 110) The course covers cognitive-behavial principles of motivation, goal setting, reinfcement, emotional regulation, attention control, imagery, and positive thinging and the psychological benefits of exercise and exercise adherence. Areas of application in spt include preparation f competition, group and team dynamics, leadership, aggression in spt, and character development sptsmanship. 8/30/11 page 3

4 Doct of Physical Therapy (DPT) Undergraduate Prerequisites Transfer Equivalent Statistics 3 Educ 120 Applied Statistics (Q,W) 3 Psych 210 Statistics in the Behavial Sciences (Q) 3 Math 204 Special Topics of Statistics (Q) 3 EDUC (Q,W) Applied Statistics (Prerequisite: WRTG 107) This course is designed to enable students to use statistics to solve problems and communicate clearly the procedures employed and the results obtained. Students will be required to perfm statistical computations and to write as a means of learning the course material. Topics covered include hypothesis testing, crelation, t-test and chi-square test. PSYC (Q) Statistics in the Behavial Sciences Basic statistics in the behavial sciences, including ganization and display of data; measures of central tendency; variability; crelation and regression; one-and twosample t-tests; confidence intervals, one-way and two-way analysis of variance, chi-square; and consideration of effect size, power and null hypothesis testing including types of errs. Introduction to the computerized statistical-analysis package SPSS-PC. Valid CPR certification American Heart Association, American Red Cross American Safety & Health Institute MATH (Q) Special Topics of Statistics Study of the computational aspects of statistics; hypothesis testing, goodness of fit; nonparametric tests; linear and quadratic regression, crelation and analysis of variance. Not open to students who have credit f are enrolled in an equivalent statistics course. CPR certification must remain current throughout the student s enrollment in the DPT. 8/30/11 page 4

5 Doct of Physical Therapy (DPT) Undergraduate Prerequisites Transfer Equivalent Observation Hours Observation hours in a Physical Therapy setting (60 hours) The DPT Career Track Student must submit documentation of a minimum of 60 hours observation time in at least two distinctly different clinical settings. Use the appropriate Physical Therapy Program fm and submit to the Direct of Clinical Education (DCE). Documentation f at least 20 hours per year must be submitted at the beginning of the sophome, juni and seni years. The students should contact the Chair of the Department DCE f the appropriate fm and guidelines as to the type of facilities that are appropriate to meet this requirement. Students with baccalaureate degrees from other institutions applying to the DPT program at The must submit evidence of at least 60 hours of observation time in at least two distinctly different clinical settings at the time of their application to the DPT program. Prospective students at The are encouraged to become active members in the Physical Therapy Club and are required to meet with the Department Chair designated PT Program Faculty member at least once each year to discuss and track their progress toward admission in the DPT. 8/30/11 page 5
