30 What about standards? What is required from a technological point of view? Standards Data Format tag: GIAI (Global Individual Asset Identifier - 96 bits long (?) for fixed assets instead of for rolling assets Data Format regarding sharing RFID information to all partners Testing European Test site: Wildenrath or Velim? Standard European test criteria: eg EMC criteria 30

31 What standards do we have? Are the requirements covered in current MRO application? If yes Update guideline to include fixed assets This can be done by (extending) the same workgroup If no Launch new workgroup to analyse requirements and draft guidelines

32 Basics for creating standards Current pilots lead to better understanding of required functionalities and practical applicability of EPC based tags Standardising is only useful if the current piloting companies will continue the application and spread it out to other business partners the other stakeholders also embark upon applying the functionalities, in several other countries To assess feasibility of broad roll out, all stakeholders must determine and express their plans, leading to Industry Engagement What if companies in some countries choose own solutions?

33 Standardisation: clear process Industry Engagement (IE) Intended to ensure that we engage where it makes sense for GS1, for the requesting industry, our MOs and all other stakeholders involved. Engagement should lead to an Industry User Group (IUG), supported by a GS1 MO Interest Group (MO IG). Global Standards Management Program (GSMP) IUG is responsible for Steps 3 through 6, with the work in the latter half of Step 3 and all of Steps 4 and 5 being carried out within the Global standards Management (GSMP) 4-Step Process.
