1 To: ll Statistical Submission oordinators, rror orrections oordinators and ata ccuracy ontacts ate: October 26, 2012 ulletin: GIS hanges to the utomobile Statistical Plan ata Rationalization Initiative The General Insurance Statistical gency (GIS) has approved amendments to the utomobile Statistical Plan (SP) as a result of the ata Rationalization initiative. ompanies were previously advised by GIS of the decision to proceed with the SP changes in ulletin No: GIS dated July 17, The changes include: reporting new unbundled data elements and discount indicators, implementing Vehicle Rate Group reporting requirements, revising coding for some ommercial Vehicle Type of Use classes and eliminating some current coding requirements. These changes can be accommodated using the current SP and laim record layouts. GIS has requested its service provider, Insurance ureau of anada (I), to provide the industry with details of these SP reporting requirement changes. Implementation ate The following changes will come into effect for all SP and laim transactions in lberta, Ontario, the tlantic Provinces, Yukon, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories with Policy ffective (not ndorsement) ates on or after January 1 st, 2014 and will be implemented for November 2013 ntry ates to accommodate advance renewals. New Unbundled ata lements Four new data elements, to unbundle information currently included in the Private Passenger Vehicle Type of Use lasses, will be required to be separately reported in the SP. ctual values for ommuting istance One-way (in kilometers), nnual riving istance (in kilometers), and usiness Use Percentage (%) will be reported in the Vehicle Segment of all SP and laim transactions. The reporting of Rated Operator Marital Status will be required in the Operator Segment. Page 1 of 5

2 Since the data required to report these new data elements may not have been initially captured or recently updated, companies will be allowed to use a Temporary, i.e. T, if they are not able to report an accurate value. This code will only be available for a limited time to allow companies a reasonable amount of time to collect and report accurate values in the future. GIS will monitor the use of the Temporary code and companies will be advised in advance when the use of this code will be terminated. The Indicators will identify if a company offers a Multi-car, Multi-line, or Renewal iscount and whether any of these discounts have been applied when determining the premium for a vehicle. If a particular iscount is not offered by a company, then (Not pplicable) should be reported. 3 Vehicle Rate Group Reporting The reporting of Vehicle Rate Group and Vehicle Rate Group Type by overage as previously documented in the SP Manual is being implemented and will be required to be reported for Private Passenger Vehicles in the Vehicle Segment of all SP and laim transactions.
