1 VITA Jean B. NGANOU Fenton Hall (541) or (541) Education Ph.D. in Mathematics, New Mexico State University, August 2009 Diploma in Mathematics, International Centre for Theoretical Physics,Trieste, Italy, August 2004 Master of Science in Mathematics, The University Of Yaounde I, Yaounde, Cameroon, Class first, September 2001 High School Teacher Diploma in Mathematics, The University Of Yaounde I, Yaounde, Cameroon, September 2001 Secondary School Teacher Diploma in Mathematics, The University Of Yaounde I, Yaounde, Cameroon, class first, September 1999 Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, The University of Yaounde I, Yaounde, Cameroon, June 1999 Research Interests Algebras of logic, Universal algebras, Non-classical algebras Non-commutative Ring Theory Undergraduate Research Employment, The University Of Oregon Instructor of Mathematics Fall 2009 to present My duties as instructor include: creation of Syllabii, group projects, homework problems. Preparation and presentation of lectures, supervision of group work, writing and grading tests and quizzes, grading projects and papers, preparing and grading the final exam for the course. For the academic years 2009/2010 and 2010/2011, I was working as the program lead for our Mathematics program at the Bend Campus, helping to recruit students from the community College into our program. I also served as the immediate Mathematics advisor to Mathematics Majors on this Campus.
2 Course Development Winter and Summer 2010 I designed a new course for the Winter Quarter 2010 on Elementary Differential Geometry. The course was taught from the book by Andrew Pressley, and covered the geometry of curves and surfaces. Another course that I created in the Winter of 2011 was about Metric Spaces and Introduction to Topology. The course was taught from the book by J. Mendelson. I had also recommended and received the approval to start offering a course on Mathematical Language and Proofs on this campus. The course was offered for the first time during the Summer Term of The purpose of the course is to ease the transition from lower division Mathematics courses to upper division ones. Undergraduate projects Supervision 2009-now Some of the projects that I have written and assigned either as group or individual project include: Conjugacy Classes of A n (n 5) and Applications; p-adic numbers; Cyclotomic Polynomials and Extensions; Digital Logic Design; RSA Encryption and Applications; An Algebraic approach to the primitive root theorem; How many subgroups of index p?; CLT numbers under Courses taught at the Abstract Algebra I,II,III: This is a year-long sequence of abstract algebra. In the first term, we cover an elementary group theory, in the second term, we cover rings and fields and in the third term, we cover field extension and Elementary Galois Theory. Introduction to Linear Algebra I, II: A two-term sequence taught from the book of Lay. Geometries from advanced point of view I,II: These cover the fundamentals of Euclidean geometry and applications. Differential Geometry: geometry of curves and surfaces taught from the book by Andrew Pressley. Differential Equations, elementary differential equations by William E. Boyce and Richard C. DiPrima. Number Theory: Divisibility, congruences, generating functions, quadratic reciprocity, taught from the book by Georges Andrew. Elementary Analysis: ɛ δ treatment of Calculus, taught from Understanding Analysis, by S. Abbott. Introduction to Topology: Basic topological spaces and their properties with a special emphasis on metric spaces. Lower division courses I have taught at UO include: Business Calculus, Calculus, Introduction to Probabilities and Statistics, Introduction to Mathematical Proofs, Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers, Intermediate Algebra. Services to the Department Undergraduate advisor to Secondary Education track, Bend Campus. Recruitment of students at the Bend Campus. Teaching effectiveness committee. Course Coordinator: Abstract Algebra sequence (AY 2011/2012, 2013/2014), Geometry 394/395 (AY 2012/2013), Introduction to proofs (AY 2014/2015). IntroDuck Adviser and Advising committee (2014/2015) Consultant reviewer Capstone publishing company 10 / /2014 I reviewed a Mathematics series of four books for kids in grades K-3 for the Capstone publishing company, that appeared the Spring of As a reviewer, not only I had to make corrections and suggestions to improve the manuscripts, but also make sure that the content of the books was aligned properly with the Mathematics content of the Common Core Standards for the stated grade levels.
3 Employment, New Mexico State University Graduate Teaching Assistant Worked as Mathematics tutor and grader in the Mathematics Learning Center for two semesters. Taught a wide range of courses some of which include College algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-calculus, Calculus I,II,III, Introduction to Linear Algebra, Introduction to Modern Algebra. For the last two which are respectively the sophomore linear algebra and junior abstract algebra, I was completely in charge of these two courses. I was responsible for creating the syllabus, lecture notes, homework problems, exams, quizzes and group projects. Summer Instructor for Prep Summer 2006, 07, 08, 09 Prep is a Summer program for talented High School Students with interest in Mathematics, Physics and Engineering. I was a full-time instructor in the program for four summers. My duties ranged from designing courses, delivering these, to guiding students through their end-of-program project. One on my major goals in the program was to present some of the advanced ideas of college level Mathematics in an elementary language that is accessible to High school students. One such idea is the introduction to group theory using clock arithmetic. Employment, Fleming Middle and High School I taught Mathematics full-time in High School for two years. Some of the courses taught include Geometry, Algebra, probability and statistics. Selected publications 15. Profinite completions of finitely presented MV-algebras, in preparation 14. Generalized Lukasiewicz rings and BL-rings, in preparation. 13. Profinite MV-algebras and Multisets, submitted to Order 12. (with C.
