2 Burleson ISD Air Force Junior ROTC AIR FORCE JUNIOR ROTC 1 A ROTC1A Air Force Junior ROTC programs are designed to develop citizens of character, dedicated to serving their nation and country. These programs do not serve as a recruiting tool for the military services there is no obligation for military service as a result of participating in AFJROTC. However, if a student is thinking about military service following high school, he/she may receive advanced rank and additional pay upon enlistment. AFJROTC helps prepare for college ROTC scholarship or military academy appointment. AFJROTC counts for up to 1 and.5 PE credits or as electives. Each cadet is expected to maintain U.S. Air Force grooming standards that include limitations on haircuts/clean shaven, jewelry, body piercings, and tattoos. Additionally, cadets are required to wear Air Force Junior ROTC uniform throughout the school day one day per week and meet Air Force standards. Uniform wear accounts for 40% of their grades. Complete sets of uniforms are issued at no cost except for replacement. Students are responsible for proper cleaning. The curriculum for these three courses will be divided into Aerospace Sciences (AS), Leadership Education (LE), and Physical Training (PT). Aerospace Sciences and LE will account for 40 percent each of the contact time while PT will amount to 20 percent. Student will learn civil aviation s primary features and impact on our society, careers available in the civil and military aerospace community, and descriptions and uses of modern aerospace vehicles. Course Note: SITE: BHS ONLY Credit: 0.5 TYPE: Regular Grade: 12 Co requisites: If you take this course, you must also take ROTC4A AIR FORCE JUNIOR ROTC 4 A AIR FORCE JUNIOR ROTC 5 HONORS A ROTCHA (AVIATION GROUND SCHOOL) This is an advanced course that may prepare students for flight instruction. It includes in-depth study of the flight environment, interpreting weather data, aircraft systems and performance, navigation, aviation human factors and flight physiology. BE ENROLLED IN GRADES 11 OR 12; IF IN GRADE 11, STUDENTS MUST BE SIMULTANEOUSLY ENROLLED IN AFJROTC 3. Credit: 0.5 TYPE: Honors Grade: Prerequisite: Be in grades 11 or 12. If in grade 11, students must be simultaneously enrolled in AFJROTC 3. Credit: 0.5 TYPE: Honors Grade: Co requisites: If you take this course, you must also take ROTCHA AIR FORCE JUNIOR ROTC 5 HONORS A ROTC Advanced Drill Class A ROTCDA This course provides fundamental and in-depth instruction in Air Force drill and ceremonies. The fundamentals of Drill and Ceremonies course concentrates on the elements of military drill, and describes individual and group precision movements, procedures for saluting, drill, ceremonies, reviews, parades, and development of command voice. Students are provided detailed instruction on ceremonial performances, compete in competitive drill events, community civic events/demonstrations, parades and other social functions necessary to support the AFJROTC goal as outlined in the cadet handbook. Though this class will follow an established lesson plan, most of the work is to be hands-on. Event participation is a requirement of this course and includes, but is not limited to: drill meets, parades, scheduled practices, school visits, pep rallies, community events, and color guard events. Unless a cadet has a legitimate emergency, any absence must be submitted in writing, and approved by the drill team commander AND SASI/ASI, at least two weeks in advance of the scheduled event. 8 Burleson ISD CTE Courses Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources AGRICULTURAL FACILITIES DESIGN AND FABRICATION AGFDFA This laboratory-based course introduces and develops principles of electricity, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), working with concrete, water-management systems, masonry, drywall, and roofing materials. Students will be expected to join the FFA Association ($20 Dues). Students will be charged a $30 lab fee to cover shop supplies used in the course. CREDIT: 0.5 TYPE: Regular Grade: PREREQUISITE: AGMMTA AGRICULTURAL MECHANICS AND METAL TECHNOLOGIES A AGRICULTURAL MECHANICS AND METAL TECHNOLOGIES A AGMMTA This laboratory-based course develops proficiency in many welding skills. Students will be expected to use the cutting torch and MIG Welders to weld in several positions. The course develops an understanding of tool operation, electrical wiring, plumbing, carpentry, and metal working techniques. Students will be in a shop setting working with wood (carpentry) and metal skills. Student will be expected to join the FFA Association ($20 Dues). Student will be charged a $30 lab fee to cover shop supplies used in the course. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings. Suggested animals which may be included in the course of study include, but are not limited to, horses, donkeys, and mules. This course covers selection, nutrition, management, and internal systems of horses. Students will be expected to join the FFA Association ($20 Dues). 9 LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION LVEPRO This course provides the common veterinary skills and procedures used on livestock, anatomy of livestock, genetics and reproduction, and diseases that can affect all livestock animals. This course is recommended for those that have an interest in the Veterinary Science field. This class introduces the basic car and equipment for livestock animals. Examples of livestock animals include cattle, swine, sheep, and goats. Students will be expected to join the FFA. CREDIT: 0.5 TYPE: Regular Grade: PRACTICUM IN AGRICULTURE, FOOD, AND NATURAL RESOURCES A PRAGFA This laboratory-based course is designed to give students supervised practical application of knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences can occur in a variety of locations appropriate to the nature and level of experiences such as employment, internships, assistantships, mentorships, or laboratories. Student must provide their own transportation to and from job sites. Students will be expected to join the FFA Association ($20 Dues). 10 PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS IN AGRIBUSINESS PRSTAG This course prepares students to attain academic skills and knowledge, acquire technical knowledge and skills related to leadership development and the workplace, and develop knowledge and skills regarding agricultural career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings. This course primarily focuses on leadership, communication, employer-employee relations, and problem solving as they relate to agribusiness. This course will prepare students for a job/career after graduating from high school. Students will be expected to join the FFA Association ($20 Dues). CREDIT: 0.5 TYPE: Regular Grade: PRE-REQUISITE: Principles of Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources RANGE ECOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT RECOMG To be prepared for careers in environmental and natural resource systems, students need to attain academic skills and knowledge, acquire technical knowledge and skills related to environmental and natural resources, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings. This course is designed to develop students understanding of rangeland ecosystems and sustainable forage production. CREDIT: 0.5 TYPE: Regular Grade: SMALL ANIMAL MANAGEMENT SMANMA This course is recommended for those that have an interest in the Veterinary Science field. Small animals may include: mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds, dogs, and cats. Students will be expected to join the FFA Association ($20 Dues). CREDIT: 0.5 TYPE: Regular Grade: WILDLIFE, FISHERIES, AND ECOLOGY MANAGEMENT WFECGT This course examines the importance of wildlife and outdoor recreation with emphasis on using wildlife and natural resources. Students will also examine the management of game and non-game wildlife species, fish, and aqua crops and their ecological needs. Students are able to obtain their Hunter Safety and Boater s Safety Certifications during this course if they pass their exam. Students will be expected to join the FFA Association ($20 Dues). 11 INTERIOR DESIGN Architecture & Construction INTDES This course is a technical course that addresses psychological, physiological, and sociological needs of individuals by enhancing the environments in which they live and work. Individuals use knowledge and skills related to interior and exterior environments, construction, and furnishings to make wise consumer decisions, increase productivity, and compete in industry. Students will be charged a $10 lab fee to cover supplies used in the course. CREDIT: 0.5 TYPE: Regular Grade: PREREQUISITE: Principles of Human Services or Principles of Hospitality & Tourism

12 Arts, Audio-Video Tech. & Communications ADVANCED AUDIO/VIDEO PRODUCTION A AAVPRA Students will learn operation and use of television production equipment; fundamentals of television production and direction. Students will be exposed to a variety of production situations. Lab experience is directed toward producing news stories for broadcast media. Students will produce video packages for the weekly high school news program, the Student Television Network, the BISH Broadcast Network (BBN), itunes, and various other video related contests. Emphasis will be on principles, history, techniques, and forms of broadcast communication. Additional time beyond regular school hours is required. Students will be expected to develop an understanding of the industry with a focus on mastery of content knowledge and skills. This course provides students the opportunity to professionally work with other students as a design team. This class will prepare students to identify numerous design careers, evaluate design for audience, meaning, effectiveness, and visual appeal, apply the elements and principles of design, learn to address and meet client needs, apply professional typographic concepts, and create attractive layouts which effectively communicate. Students will be fully expected to objectively evaluate their work by professional standards, produce answers to project prompts in a timely manner, and apply proper terminology used in the industry.
