Message to Prospective International Students Message from University Nagaoka University of Technology was founded in 1976 based on a philosophy of creating science and technology, namely, "GIGAKU", as well as nurturing practical and creative engineers through that it would work in tandem with society-at-large. Since then, we have stayed true to this 13
14 distinct and clearly defined orientation, and we have turned out about 25,000 graduates, most of them have come to our university from colleges of technology as well as vocational high schools to deepen their studies. Most of the students who gather here already possessed a strong sense of purpose at the time of their graduation from middle school, their goal to find a place in the world of technology: through their diligent studies at a college of technology or vocational high school, they absorbed a deep sense of GIGAKU. Our university offers such students a seamless educational experience through graduate school, by virtue of which we are producing the future leading lights of GIGAKU, capable of activity that is at once both long-term and strategic. Our university offers a consistent scheme of research and education, unique and unequalled in the world. This scheme freely. Such a scheme, which cannot be realized at a general university, makes it possible to put advanced programs into practice, and to announce distinguished research results. These programs and results have become the stands for higher education and research organizations. In August of 2011, this NUT formulated a stratagem for medium- and long-term growth and an action plan by which to carry out its objectives. In accordance with this plan, we have initiated activities with our eyes fixed on the world that we expect to be living in 10 and even 30 years in the future. Under circumstances in which further innovation of universities is strongly called for, we will continue to develop and more forward on the path that we are forging, creating a deeper expression of our founding principle of GIGAKU as a cornerstone of manufacturing for a new age based on the needs of society. Through these efforts, we will continue to cultivate talented personnel with practical skills and creative minds who can anticipate the future and contribute meaningfully at the global level. This is our raison d'etre, our purpose, as a university. Voice of International Students None 14
