1 PERSONAL PROTECTION CONSULTANTS COURSE DESCRIPTIONS Illinois Concealed Carry Class Personal Protection Consultants (PPC) now offers the Illinois Concealed Carry License (CCL) class. The state requires a total of 16 hours of training. I plan to offer this course on the weekends due to the number of hours of training required. If there is sufficient interest from retirees, or people who work nights or weekends, I can offer a class during the week as well. The classroom portion of the course will be held at 2255 E. 75th St. (75th & Crandon, enter building on Crandon St. side). The Range portion will be held at Sporting Arms Gun shop and Range located at S. Western Ave. In Posen, Illinois. Saturdays will be all classroom activities from 10:00am until 6:00 pm. Students will need to bring their own guns, holsters, magazines and or speed loaders and their carriers to class on Saturdays. Make sure your guns are unloaded, and encased for legal transportation. DO NOT BRING LIVE AMMUNITION. Snap caps and/or dummy rounds will be used for practice. The range portion will be Sunday s from 9:00 am until 12 Noon. The classroom portion will be from 1:00-6:00 pm. It is important to note that 100% attendance will be required in order to receive a certificate. If students need to, they can split their days, meaning they could complete a Saturday on one week and a Sunday on another week. Full payment is due however, at the time of enrollment. Students will be responsible for providing their own guns, holsters, magazines, carriers, and 100 rounds of ammunition for the range portion of the class (ammo can be purchased at the range). I do have 6 guns and holsters available for students to rent who don t have their own equipment, for an additional $ Those weapons would include: 2 Ruger P- 95, 9mm pistols, 1 Sig P-225, 9mm pistol, 1 Glock 19, 9mm pistol, 1 Glock 23,.40 cal. Pistol, and 1 Taurus.357/.38 Spl. Revolver. Weapons rental will be done on a first come, first served basis via the web site. If you are not sure what you want/ need to rent, give me a call so we can talk first. Since the law requires concealed carry, make sure you bring a concealment garment (coat, jacket, vest, baggy shirt, etc.). You need to think about where (preferably on your body/ or off ) and how, i.e., Inside the Waist Band holster (IWB), Outside the Waist Band holster (OWB), ankle holster, pocket holster, fanny pack, purse, brief case, etc.) you plan to carry your gun and spare ammo (yes, you should carry spare ammo). The cost of the Concealed Carry course will be $ This cost will include a continental breakfast and lunch (Pizza and Sub sandwiches) for both days. Students are responsible for their own transportation. We can try and arrange car pooling activities to get to the range for those without personal transportation, but cannot guarantee it! Transportation is

2 your responsibility, not mine. Due to the cost involved with renting both classroom and range space, I will need a minimum of 4 people to hold a class, there will be a maximum of 12 people per class. Students will need to secure their spot in a class by making a payment via the web site: The web site is set up in a such a way that there are 12 slots per class. Class slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Once one class is full, students will need to defer to the next available class date. The State requires 16 hrs of training to receive a Concealed Carry License (CCL). Although the state is willing to give 4 hrs of credit to anyone who took the CFP class, it creates an undue burden on instructors to create a 16 hr. class, a 12 hr. class and a 8 hr class. My solution to this dilemma is to offer a 20% refund for anyone who took my CFP class, i.e. each person who took my CFP class would receive a $50.00 refund upon completion of the class. The CCL class is organized differently from the CFP class so it's not like someone could just start at 2:00 pm instead of 10:00 am. Sorry to have to be this way but the state is dumping the responsibility of verifying documents on instructors. Since I am not a documents expert, I am not willing to jeopardize my license to teach, because a faulty document slipped through. The state has the time and resources to verify documents, I do not! Down & Dirty Street Fighting 101 Real fights do not look neat and pretty, like a choreographed scene from a kung-fu movie. They are typically unfair where people employ all types of dirty, nasty tricks to win. It is the only time when being civil is completely inappropriate, and being the ultimate opportunist is the most appropriate thing you could do under the circumstances. Down & dirty street fighting 101 focus on tactics and techniques that the average, everyday, unprepared, out of shape, person can use to defend themselves. It focuses on situational awareness, and how to use fear as an energy source to drive your fight against your opponent. It looks at very simple but dirty techniques on how to get a person off you. This class also focuses on the use and effective employment of improvised weapons that most people either have on their person every day or are commonly found. This would include pens, keys, nail files, glass bottles, books, magazines, eyeglasses, etc. No matter how proficient you are with guns, knives, etc. there will come a moment when you cannot have them with you. EVERYBODY needs to have some plain vanilla fighting skills. This is a one day six hour class. Cost: $30.00

3 Knife/Counter Knife This one day course is designed for the individual who carries an edged weapon for self defense. Since some sort of knife is legal almost everywhere and can be used by persons of any size and strength this course should be a priority. This course includes stance and movement, cutting and stabbing patterns, deployment, tracking and targeting, blocks and deflections and much more including empty hand techniques and improvised weapons. Cost: Drawing from the Holster This class is intended as a follow up to the 5 hour CFP class. Since the CFP class doesn t have time to include drawing from the holster, this class is dedicated on teaching how to do this quickly and safety. Any student who has taken the 5 hr. CFP class and the Drawing from the holster class (at minimum) is eligible to participate in the Periodic Practice sessions. This is a four hour class, 2 hrs classroom and 2 hrs range. Cost: $65.00 including range fee and ammo. Introduction to Basic handgun This is a 14 week long class meets one day a week with range days on weekends. This class covers the parts and operation of both revolvers and semi-auto pistols. Laws, liability, and the legal and psychological implication of being involved with a self defense shooting. The process of selecting a handgun, ammunition selection and performance, incapacitation and failure to stop, carrying and concealment options, cover and concealment, trigger control, contact weapons, how to properly draw from a holster and reholster safely. The range portion of the class includes: target VS combat accuracy, two handed, one handed and weak hand shooting techniques, malfunction clearance drills, emergency and tactical reloading techniques, multiple target engagement, and body armor drills. Range sessions and ammunition costs additional. Cost: $ Ladies Day at the Range This is a special two part class for women only which focuses on an introduction to defensive pistol skills. Part one is the orientation. At the orientation we will cover the laws governing defensive hand gun use which focuses on when, and especially when NOT to shoot. Surviving a

4 lethal assault on the street is only half the battle, next you will have to defend your actions in criminal court, and possibly civil court as well. Part two we will focus on how to shoot. Course content includes how to properly draw from a holster, accuracy drills, one hand and weak hand shooting drills, stoppage clearance drills, tactical and emergency reload drills, contact weapons drills and shoot - no shoot decision making. Ammunition requirements: 150 rds. Cost: $60.00 (does not include ammo cost). Periodic Practice sessions Practice sessions are a time to practice and brush up what you should have been doing all year, but probably haven t. I rent a range out in the south suburbs for 3 hours and we practice things like speed draw, accuracy drills, stoppage clearance drills, one handed shooting drills, weak hand shooting drills, low light drills, contact weapons drills, etc. Ammunition requirements: 150 rds. Primary, 18 rds. For back up gun (BUG). Costs: $30.00 (does not include ammo costs). Prerequisite: Any student who has taken the 5 hr. CFP class and the Drawing from the holster class (at minimum) is eligible to participate in the Periodic Practice sessions. Scenario Based Training (coming soon) How many people reading this have ever actually been involved in a gunfight? Do you have any idea how you would actually respond to a life threatening situation? Have you ever surprised yourself, and did something that you wouldn t think you would do? When is the last time someone asked you why you did something, and the only answer you could come up with is I don t know??? I cannot recommend Scenario Based Training enough! Scenario Based training, is a class using soft air pistols (plastic pellet guns) instead of real guns. This allow us to create all types of scenarios where people are forced to make close encounter, life threatening decisions without anyone s life actually being in danger. Scenarios can include anything from: a homeless person asking for spare change, to an armed robbery, kidnaping, suicide attempts, deranged gunman massacres and anything in between. After all students have completed an exercise, we conduct a debriefing to analyze what people did, and why. This class emphasizes dis-engagement and conflict avoidance. Anyone who is even thinking about owning a gun, needs to take this class.

5 Tactical Treatment of Gunshot Wounds This is a unique opportunity to learn what steps to take to stabilize a victim of a gunshot wound or serious penetrating trauma (including knife wounds)for the 3-30 minutes it may take until the ambulance arrives. This may be a family member, innocent by-stander or even yourself. This class is based on principles of tactical medicine is designed for home owners/defenders, firearm instructors, and police/security officers. In this class you will learn critical anatomy, ballistic impact, managing the three major causes of death, using hemostatic agents, using tourniquets, putting together a trauma kit for home and vehicle and other topics to keep a person alive until help arrives. This class is presented both as classroom theory and practical hands on training. Tactical Treatment of Gunshot Wounds is taught by a paramedic with the Chicago Fire Department with over 25 years of experience on the tough inner city streets. Cost: $85.00 All of the classes above will be offered in the immediate Chicago-land area. *********************************************************** All of the two day classes below will be offered at the Sand Burr Gun Ranch 2111 E. 350 North Rochester, Indiana Phone Sand Burr is located about 2 1/2 hours east of Chicago Introduction to the Defensive Handgun* This two day course introduces you to the fundamentals of modern defensive handgun techniques and safe weapons handling procedures. It begins with a classroom session covering the legal and psychological implications of a self defense shooting. On the range we cover how to properly draw from a holster, weak hand shooting and transition techniques, stoppage clearance drills, tactical and emergency reload drills, and shoot - no shoot decision making. This

6 course will consist of 1/4 classroom and 3/4 range. Ammunition requirements: 400 rds. Cost: $ Intermediate Defensive Handgun* This two day course covers bullet selection, performance and incapacitation; effective use of cover and concealment; accuracy drills; speed shooting drills; multiple target engagement; shooting from cover; speed rock; hit and shoot; body armor drills; vertical trek drills; dim light shooting; and contact weapons drills. Ammunition requirements: 500 rds. Cost: $ Prerequisite: student must have successfully completed an approved beginning handgun course. Advanced Defensive Handgun* This two day course focuses on shooting on the move. The reality is that when bullets start flying, people DO NOT stand still. 75% of the shooting in this class will be done while simultaneously moving, forward, backwards, sideways and/or diagonally. This class will also cover low light drills both with and without a flashlight, and injury drills which will require students to shoot from unusual positions. Ammunition requirements: 600 rds. Cost$ Prerequisite: student must have successfully completed an approved advanced handgun course. Self Defense and the Law Anyone who owns a gun with the intentions of using it for self defense needs to take this class. Most gun related classes begin with the draw and end with the last shot. This class examines the legal, moral, and psychological implications of a self defense shooting. Do you know under what circumstances you can legally shoot another human being and stay out of jail? Anyone who confuses that which is legally right, with that which is morally right is almost guaranteed to end up in jail. How do you defend and support you family if you are locked up? What are you supposed to say, or not say, to witnesses, first responders, investigators, prosecutors, etc. Cost: $75.00 Introduction to Basic Rifle This one day course is designed for anyone with little, to no experience, with a rifle. Unless acceptable proof of training is available, this class should be considered a prerequisite for all

7 other rifle classes offered by PPC. Course content begins with basic safe gun handling rules and techniques; it goes on to cover the basic parts and functioning of various types of rifle actions, (single shot, bolt action, lever action and semi-automatic); how to sight your rifle in; establishing a proper hold, cheek weld, breathing, and aiming techniques for an accurate shot; the six basic rifle trigger manipulations; how to clear a jam; and various rifle fighting positions. Equipment needed: Preferably a magazine fed, military style, semi-automatic rifle, however since this is a basic class, any type action (lever action, bolt action, etc.) or caliber, including pistol caliber carbines, and.22 cal. rifles are acceptable for this class. A sling is mandatory for your rifle, tactical slings (where the rifle hangs in front of you) are preferable, but a standard sling is acceptable. Eye and ear protection and a hat or cap with a brim. Red dot sights are acceptable for this class, but magnified scopes are not. Backpack full of rags, towels, old clothes, etc. and old towel to lay on that you don t mind getting dirty or damaged. Ammunition requirements: 200 rds of ammo. Cost: $ Defensive Shotgun This one day Shotgun course emphasizes safe shotgun handling techniques, various carrying techniques and positions, loading, unloading, and ammo swamping techniques, quick reloading procedures and effective recoil management. It also covers various shotgun fighting positions, stoppage clearance procedures, and a speed reload- competition drill you won t forget! Either 12 or 20 gauge, pump action, or semi-automatic shotguns are acceptable for this class. Ammunition requirements: 80 rds (65 rds. buckshot & 15 rds. slug). Cost: $ Urban Rifle I This two day course covers the effective deployment and use of the magazine fed, military style semi-automatic rifle. Course content includes sighting in procedures; trigger manipulations; standing, knelling and prone fighting positions; movement, cover and concealment; stoppage clearance procedures; competition drills and much more. Red dot or reflex sights are both acceptable and encouraged for this class, but magnified scopes are not! Ammunition requirements: 600 rds. rifle, 30 rds. Pistol. Cost: $ Urban Rifle II This two day course covers the effective use of the military style semiautomatic rifle while moving. When bullets start flying, people do not stand still! As with the advanced handgun class, 75% of shooting in this class will be done while moving. This course also includes

8 shooting at varying distances, range estimation, one on one, and group competition drills and focuses on shooting under stress. Red dot or reflex sights are both acceptable and encouraged for this class, but magnified scopes are not! Ammunition requirements: 600 rds Rifle, 50 rds. Pistol Cost: $200 ****************************************************************************** Eye protection, ear protection, and a cap or hat with a brim is mandatory safety equipment for all gun classes. Equipment needed for handgun courses: + A good quality handgun with a minimum barrel length of 3 inches, and a minimum caliber of.38 spl. in revolver or 9mm in semi auto. + A good quality holster (preferably leather or plastic) where the top will stay open to allow you to reholster with one hand. + A minimum of three magazines or speed loaders and a pouch to carry them in. + Pants that have belt loops. + A strong belt. Equipment needed for Rifle/shotgun course: Equipment needed: A military style semi-automatic rifle* with a sling**, at least three 30 round magazines or five 20 round magazines or 10 clips (for SKS or Garand rifles) 600 rds of non-armor piercing ammunition. Handgun with holster, 20 rds of handgun ammo. Eye and ear protection, a hat or cap with a brim. Pen and paper. A lawn chair or folding chair, water and a bag lunch. A rain coat or poncho. For the shotgun portion you will need a 12 or 20 ga. Shotgun with a sling** and 45 rds of bird shot, 20 rds of buck shot and 10 rds of slug. *A pistol caliber carbine is acceptable for this class, but.22 rifles are not acceptable

9 **A SLING IS MANDATORY FOR THIS CLASS FOR BOTH RIFLES AND SHOTGUNS - NO EXCEPTIONS, THE SAME IS TRUE FOR EYE AND EAR PROTECTION AND A HAT OR CAP WITH A BRIM. Make sure that you check the weather and dress appropriately.
