The Public Safety Institute is located on the beautiful University of North Alabama Campus in Florence, Alabama. We have made a commitment to offer quality, affordable, Public Safety and Law Enforcement Training to public safety agencies throughout the region. We offer a broad spectrum of law enforcement training and public safety sector training, and we can develop courses and training to meet your department's specific needs. These courses can be taught here at our training facility in Northwest Alabama, or we can take it on the road to your location. JANUARY COURSES RAPE AGGRESSION DEFENSE (RAD), JANUARY 19, 2013 COURSE DATE: January 19, 2012 COURSE TIME: 0800 hrs hrs. (8AM 4PM) TUITION: FREE The Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) System is a program of realistic, self defense tactics and techniques. It is a comprehensive course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands on defense training. RAD is not a martial arts program. Our courses are taught by certified RAD instructors and provide you with a workbook/reference manual. This manual outlines the entire physical defense program for reference and continuous personal growth. The RAD System of Physical Defense is currently being taught at many Colleges and Universities. The growing, widespread acceptance of this system is primarily due to the ease, simplicity and effectiveness of our tactics, solid research, and unique teaching methodology. The RAD Systems is dedicated to teaching women defensive concepts and techniques against various types of assault, by utilizing

2 easy, effective and proven self defense tactics. Our system of realistic defense will provide a woman with the knowledge to make an educated decision about resistance. (8AM 4PM) TUITION: $25.00 The University of North Alabama Public Safety Institute is pleased to offer an 8 (CEU) hour of training in Police Traffic Radar. This course is designed for the Law Enforcement Officer in a Patrol Officer's position to improve the effectiveness of speed enforcement through the proper used of the police traffic Radar speed measurement devices. The student will be given sufficient instruction to able him/her to select a site for stationary surveillance, set up the measurement device, to perform accuracy tests and interference checks, to monitor traffic in stationary mode and moving mode, and detect suspected violators. 3 The student will learn how to properly set up, load, and deploy M26 and X26 Taser. Topics covered; Warnings, Technology overview. What is it and what does it do? Electrical and medical background. Specifications. How does it work. Volunteer Exposure. Issue M26 and X26 for training. Practical training and testing. Firing/reloading drills. Tactical consideration and field applications. Scenario Based Training. A written exam will be administered. Students must bring 3 cartridges to fire. These cartridges may be damaged or junk cartridges that are not suitable for duty. 4 REPORT WRITING JANUARY 29, 2013 COURSE DATE: January 29, 2013 COURSE TIMES: 0800 hrs hrs. TUITION: $25.00 The University of North Alabama Public Safety Institute is pleased to offer an 4 (CEU) hour of training in Police Report Writing. This 4 hour training course will help officers write clear, concise reports reports that will meet legal requirements and increase your chances of conviction. The course is designed to put the student in the proper mindset for gathering information at the scene of any law enforcement incident. With so many different people reading reports today (ie; supervisors, chiefs, sheriffs, courts, lawyers, city councils, media, authors etc.) writing a good report will be make a positive impression of the officer and the agency. This is not a course on grammar or punctuation; however we do touch on sentence structure, terms, language and content as it pertains to law enforcement reports. INSTRUCTOR: Sgt. Terry Parker The cost of this course is $25. Refreshments will be served. Class registration is limited to 35 participants. FEBRUARY COURSES ESCAPING VIOLENT ENCOUNTERS FOR EMS & FIRE (E.V.E.S.) FEBRUARY 23 24, 2013 COURSE DATE: February 23, 2013 February 24, 2013 COURSE TIMES: 0800 hrs hrs. TUITION: $ E.V.E. 4 EMS/Fire is an 16 hour course covering the basic skills required by any EMS responder or provider when facing possible, or even imminent assault. The course content consists of: Dispatch to scene indicators. (Pre Arrival) Verbal skills to diffuse potentially violent encounters. Arrival scene indicators. (Safe ambulance parking, entrance/exit plan)

5 Pre assault indicators. (crowd, body language, scene survey) The 5 D's (Drugged, Domestic, Diabetic, Deranged, Drunk) What to look for in each. Legal aspects of self defense. TUITION: $ plus $45 range fee to be collected day of course Handgun/Shotgun Instructor This school compresses the handgun instructor school to 3 days and adds 2 days of shotgun instructor training. Student classroom presentations, concealed carry training, and unconventional shooting positions are replaced with shotgun marksmanship and handling classroom presentations and range work. Shotgun drills include firing from cover, use of kneeling and prone positions, moving targets, malfunction clearing, firing on the move, and transitioning to the handgun. EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS The following equipment is REQUIRED and must be provided by the student for ALL firearm instructor development schools: 1. Duty Handgun A duty type, law enforcement handgun. 2. Magazines or Speedloader If using a semi automatic pistol, bring a minimum of 4

6 magazines, (5 if the magazine capacity is less than 10). If using a revolver, bring a minimum of 5 speed loaders. 3. Holster, Belt, and Ammunition Carrier Pouches The holster must be department or agency issue, duty type (patrol), strong side directional draw, equipped with a handgun retention device and securely fastened to the gun belt. Speedloader and/or magazine pouches must also be equipped with a retention device. 4. Eye Protection, Ear Protection, and Baseball Style Cap Safety glasses must be of the wrap around type or employ side panels. If wearing prescription glasses, they must be covered with safety glasses unless they meet the above requirements. Ear plugs or ear muffs (preferred), and a baseball cap with bill to deflect ejected brass must also be worn. NOTE: Students will NOT be allowed on the range without wraparound or side panel safety glasses. 5. Appropriate Clothing Students should bring appropriate clothing to participate in the range exercises consistent with prevailing weather conditions. Range exercises will be conducted in inclement weather unless a safety hazard exists. NOTE: Shorts are NOT appropriate law enforcement range clothing. 6. Duty Flashlight Law enforcement, hand held, duty type flashlight capable of one handed operation. 7. Note Taking Material Pen, pencil, and paper to take notes with in the classroom and on the range. A jumbo permanent marker for use on the range. 8. Cleaning Equipment Appropriate cleaning equipment for the firearm being utilized at the school. NOTE: There is no time allotted during the school for the cleaning of firearms. Students will be expected to perform cleaning of their respective firearms on their own time. 9. Knee and Elbow Pads Knee and elbow pads are optional for kneeling and prone position shooting. In addition to the above mentioned required equipment, the following are ALSO necessary for this school: Duty type, law enforcement 12 gauge pump or semi auto police shotgun equipped with a sling. 900 rounds of duty or training handgun ammunition. 50 rounds of duty or training 12 gauge slugs. 20 rounds of duty or training 12 gauge 00 buckshot. 100 rounds of birdshot (#6, #8 or #9). Terry Parker at or MARCH COURSES NRA PATROL RIFLE INSTRUCTOR: MARCH 11 15, 2013 COURSE DATE: March 11 15, 2013 COURSE TIMES: 0730 hrs hrs. TUITION: $ plus $45 range fee to be collected day of course. This school centers on the patrol rifle for officers using iron sights or optics (which must be removed for zeroing exercises). The classroom portion informs students how to teach basic fundamentals of rifle marksmanship and handling, how to zero iron sighted rifles, and discusses zeroing policy and liability concerns. Range work quickly moves from basic marksmanship to tactical movement, use of cover, various firing positions, pivots and turns, use of the safety circle concept, reloading under stress, firing on the move, multiple threats, decision making, and reduced light threat identification and firing. Students design a tactical course of fire and are responsible for developing a lesson plan and running fellow students through their course at the end of the week. (Officers attending this class are expected to be capable of firing 6 inch groups with a rifle at 50 yards from the prone, sitting, kneeling and standing positions, and possess the ability to make accurate rifle sight adjustments, field strip, reassemble, load and unload their respective rifles, prior to arrival. THIS is not a basic operator school.) EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS The following equipment is REQUIRED and must be provided by the student for ALL firearm instructor development schools: 1. TUITION: $95.00 The purpose of the training class is to expose the student to the proper use of the flashlight and weapon in a low light environment, use of force techniques, force on force entry situations and building searching technique. The tuition will cover manuals, refreshments, CDs, and each paying participant will receive a Flashlight, Surefire V 70 G2 Holder, and 3 Pack of Surefire Combat Rings.

11 EMI L363 MULTI HAZARD EMERGENCY PLANNING, MARCH 26 28, 2013 COURSE DATE: March 26 28, 2013 COURSE TIME: 0800 hrs hrs. TUITION: NO COST TRAINING This Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) course is designed to be delivered to teams of campus personnel who are responsible for creating, reviewing, implementing and exercising emergency operations plans (EOPs). The target audience for this course is people who have traditional response or strategic experience, but minimal experience in emergency management planning. The three day course is primarily interactive presentations coupled with numerous individual and group exercises. Topics to be covered include: An overview of emergency management Identifying hazards and using a risk assessment process Managing your Emergency Operations Center (EOC) using ICS (Incident Command System) Partnering with the community Developing and/or revising your Emergency Operations Plan Training and testing the plans Engaging the campus community. For a successful L363 delivery, a sufficient number of teams and range of job positions within each team is needed. The target team size is 4 8 members. 15 This course is designed to assist the student in identification, recognition, effects of certain drugs. The student will learn the dangers of certain drugs and what signs to look for when someone is under the influence of drugs. As to the Alcohol portion of the course many people have misunderstandings of how much alcohol a person can consume and still function properly. Discussion will take place as to designated drivers, responsibility of the person consuming alcoholic beverages. The student will be given information as to dealing with persons under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
