1 369 Fulham Road London SW10 9NH 5 th February 2015 Our Ref: FOI 2015/033 Following your request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 which we received on 19 th January 2015, we are providing you information as held by Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. In your query, you requested the following information for which corresponding responses have been provided. 1. The number of chaplains currently at the Trust The budget for chaplaincy is for 3.3 whole time equivalents (WTE). The three WTE ensure 24 hour on-call cover 365 days per annum to facilitate spiritual care for people of all faiths and those who do not belong to a religious tradition, with the 0.3 WTE Muslim chaplain and his weekend cover (see below) providing out-of-hours cover for his community. 2. The number of staff are employed as part of the chaplaincy service, and their job roles Two of the whole-time posts the Head of Multi-faith Chaplaincy & Deputy Head of Chaplaincy have been held for the past three years by Church of England priests who were appointed competitively for their skill sets for these roles from an ecumenical field of candidates, though in fact the current patient ratio of Church of England patients to those from other faith communities supports that allocation. The third whole-time post is a job share, and has been for the last three years a Roman Catholic Priest (0.6) and a Roman Catholic Sister (0.4). Again this reflects the number of Roman Catholic patients in the Trust. There was a vacancy in this shared post from the end of July 2012 for the 0.6 post and from the end of November 2012 for the 0.4 post. The new team took up their posts at the end of January During this vacancy this post was covered by Bank chaplains, one of whom was Roman Catholic, the other Church of England, both doing generic work and with other Roman Catholic Bank chaplains covering the emergency call out for Roman Catholic patients. The 0.3 whole time equivalent Muslim chaplain has been in post for the past three years and reflects the number of Muslim patients and staff in the Trust. He has a deputy who covers emergency Muslim call out at the weekend and who is paid for this service. The Hindu priest has been in post for the past three years and is paid for emergency call out. The numbers of call outs is small. All other members of the team are voluntary, mainly at their request. This includes the volunteer chaplains from the Sikh, Jewish, Buddhist, Russian & Greek Orthodox, Humanist, Christian Science, Quaker communities, and other smaller religious traditions. The number of patients, relatives and staff from these traditions is relatively small but we endeavour to respect and respond appropriately to all of them.

2 In addition the department currently has 16 volunteers from various traditions Church of England, Muslim, Pentecostal, and Roman Catholic who undertake general visiting or support (e.g. cakes and coffee for neo-natal parents) on the wards. 3. The team undertook action research published January 2014 and is represented in the Multi- Professional Research Network. Please note that the multi-faith chaplaincy team also generates income for the Trust via a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with CNWL NHS Foundation Trust to provide chaplaincy to its units on the Kensington & Chelsea Mental Health Unit, adjacent to the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. In addition the fees from the Head of Chaplaincy s teaching on the Chaplaincy Foundation Course at St Mary s University, Twickenham are assigned to the chaplaincy budget, as are non-hospital contract funeral fees.
