3 KC Start Up Village KC STEM Alliance KCnext KC Public Library KCWiT Science City The Kansas City Startup Village (KCSV) is an entrepreneur-led, organic, grassroots initiative helping to bolster the Kansas City entrepreneur and startup ecosystem. The mission is to create a concentrated and collaborative community of startups centered around the first Google Fiber fiberhood in the world and to help advance Kansas City as a premiere startup city in America. The KC STEM Alliance is a collaborative network of educators, business partners and affiliates that inspires interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math careers to generate a robust force of related professionals for our community. The Technology Council is promoting the region s tech sector, supporting its members and galvanizing the tech industry by leading activity driven by the objectives to recruit and build employment, amplify region's assets as well as educate and network with all stakeholders The Kansas City Public Library system consists of a central library, nine branches, and an outreach services program serving a constituency of over 250,000 in Kansas City, Missouri. In addition to providing library services to residents, the Library also serves as a resource for the 1.7 million metropolitan residents of greater Kansas City. Specifically the KCPL supports the development of a digital media lab experience for adolescent patrons. KCWiT s mission is to inspire young girls to join the technology field and help shape career opportunities through educational workshops, provide mentoring for young women entering the workforce, and to maintain a network for professional women in technology career paths in the Kansas City area Science City provides over 200,000 visitors annually with an engaging environment ripe for exploration, experimentation and discovery.
4 KC Digital Drive K-20 Librarians KC Digital Drive is a community-driven, regional effort to take advantage of our unique infrstructure and establish Kansas City as a global leader in digital innovation. KC Digital Drive is charged with the implementation and stewardship of Playing to Win in America's Digital Crossroads, the digital playbook produced by the Mayor's Bistate Innovations Team. Inspired by the Google Fiber for Communities project, Kansas City librarians are leading the way in a new national initiative, the K-20 Librarian. Initiated by the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library, we are a collaboration of school, public and academic librarians. We've begun building bridges among K-12 schools, public libraries, colleges, universities and other organizations to extend digital learning opportunities and resource sharing. We will leverage emerging technologies such as highperformance Internet access anticipated from Google's gigabit fiber project. Our collaboration is part of a national advocacy campaign launched by the Digital Village Fiber to the Library initiative and Internet2 s K20 program. Online Resources URL Description Black Girls Code To increase the number of women of color in the digital space by empowering girls of color ages 7 to 17 to become innovators in STEM fields, leaders in their communities, and builders of their own futures through exposure to computer science and technology. Blacks in Technology Blacks In Technology is focused on increasing the visibility of Black technologists and engineers everywhere. Code Academy Codecademy is an online-start-up aimed at teaching people how to program for free.we're committed to building the best learning experience inside and out, making Codecademy the best place for our team to learn, teach, and create the online learning experience of the future.
5 Code for America Dot Diva Gigabit Community Fund Girls Who Code Hopscotch Hour of Code Learn Science & Math Club Code for America is a 501(c)3 non-profit that envisions a government by the people, for the people, that works in the 21st century. Code for America s impact on local government has been nothing short of revolutionary. Also know as the Peace Corps for geeks, Code for America places fellows in 10 cities each year, where they work on open-source projects, civic hacking, citizen collaboration and much more. Founder Online resource tool to inspire teen girls to consider computing as a career. Working in partnership with the National Science Foundation and US Ignite, the Gigabit Community Fund seeks to advance the development, experimentation and implementation of learning and workforce opportunities enhanced by new, super powerful Internet technologies like Google Fiber and EPB. Girls Who Code online programs work to inspire, educate, and equip girls with the computing skills to pursue 21st century opportunities. Coding for kids using ipad language. We make it easy for kids to create and publish programs. Kids are creative, and should be able to make digital stuff as easily as tangible stuff. Code.org is a non-profit dedicated to expanding participation in computer science education by making it available in more schools, and increasing participation by women and underrepresented students of color. Rocket21 is a social networking website designed to help children explore STEM interests and options for their future. Sandbox Summit is a series of conferences designed to address how technology affects the ways kids play, learn, and connect.
