4 1 ACWA/JPIA Function of Employee Benefits Program Committee July 19, 2012 BACKGROUND ACWA/JPIA officially began administration of the ACWA Health Benefits Authority (HBA) health and benefits programs on July 2, The membership of the HBA voted to dissolve effective June 29, The final termination of HBA will transpire over the next few months. CURRENT SITUATION This is the first meeting of the newly formed Employee Benefits Committee. The group will review the functions of the committee. The following outline will be used to begin the discussion: Role: - Advisory to the Executive Committee - Provide member feed back Tasks: - Annual rate adjustments - Changes to the Program - New members in the pipeline - Underwriting guidelines - Internal policies review - Program manual Logistics: - Travel expenses - Packet preparation - Electronic meetings RECOMMENDATION None, for information only. 5 2 ACWA/JPIA Pricing for 2013 Program Year July 19, 2012 BACKGROUND Pricing for the benefit programs are traditionally set in July. This allows enough time for the appropriate documentation to be prepared for the fall Open Enrollment process. CURRENT SITUATION The insurance broker for the Employee Benefits Program (Tom Sher, Alliant Insurance Services) was instructed to proceed with this year s renewal with no or little change to the structure of the current programs. The stated goal was to negotiate the best possible prices with no change to programs. Tom Sher will provide a program overview of past practices and pricing history during the meeting. Program pricing options and recommendations will be reviewed during the meeting. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommendations will be presented at the meeting.
