2 Introduction Patrons that utilized the Student Recreation Center (SRC) during the Fall 2011 term were surveyed in March 2012 about their music preferences in the lower weight room area. Students that had at least 15 swipes for the Fall 2011 term were solicited for the survey. Three hundred and eighty (380) of 4,701 students responded for an 8.1% response rate. All 1,464 UA faculty and staff that utilized the SRC during the fall term were solicited. Two hundred and thirty-one (231) faculty/staff, or 15.8%, responded to the survey. It should be noted that community and alumni membership patrons were not surveyed. The survey included 13 different Sirius XM music stations and one option for no music at all. Participants were instructed to rank their top three preferences. Unfortunately, to be able to submit your survey one had to rank all 14 options. Having to rank all options seems to have impacted the response rate, particularly among students, as an additional 465 students opened the survey but failed to submit their results. The survey results are broken down by status (student - faculty/staff) and by sex (male - female) among students only. The percentages of first choice, second choice, and third choice are given for all response options for all groups. Additionally, a weighted score is calculated for each choice for all groups based on the response options (3-points for first choice, 2-points for second choice, and 1-point for third choice). 1

6 Ranking List The '80s on 8 is a commercial-free station. The channel plays hit music from the 1980s. Artists played include Duran Duran, the Culture Club, The Go-Go's, Styx, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, The Police, Prince, and Michael Jackson. The '90s on 9: The channel focuses mostly on hit-driven R&B, Hip-Hop, Rhythmic, Dance, Rock, Teen Pop, Pop, and Alternative tracks from the 1990s. Artists include Roxette, Ace Of Base, Pearl Jam, Snoop Dogg, Bon Jovi, Salt-N-Pepa, Melissa Etheridge, Jennifer Lopez, Alanis Morissette, Dave Matthews Band. Classic Rewind is a classic rock radio station, which centers on the late 1970s and 1980s. The channel is often billed as classic rock from the "cassette era." Artists include Tom Petty, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Cars, Boston, Police, Journey, Genesis, John Mellencamp, AC/DC. Deep Tracks is a channel featuring deep cuts of classic rock music, which encompasses lesser known album tracks, one-hit wonders, concert recordings, "forgotten 45s" and "Bside" tracks. Artists on this station include Bob Dylan, Allman Brothers, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Steely Dan, Kinks, Steve Miller Band. Hip-Hop Nation is a hip-hop station. The channel is uncensored. Artists on this station include Lil Wayne, Drake, Rick Ross, The Game, Jay-Z, Young Jeezy, Wiz Khalifa, J. Cole, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj. Boneyard is a channel featuring a classic-based hard rock format. Artists heard on this station include Metallica, KISS, AC/DC, Rush, Aerosmith, Mötley Crüe, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Megadeth. Lithium is a 1990s grunge and alternative rock channel. While the primary focus is grunge and alternative rock, the channel also plays bands from the late '90s wave of alternative metal, such as Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails, as well as adult album alternative artists from Crash Test Dummies and The Cranberries, and punk rock artists from The Offspring and Green Day. The Spectrum is an adult album alternative radio station, which includes artists such as The Rolling Stones, Jack Johnson, Sheryl Crow, R.E.M., U2, Dave Matthews Band, Bonnie Raitt, Melissa Etheridge, Death Cab For Cutie. The Coffee House is a Singer-songwriter and Acoustic rock radio station. Artists heard on this station include Norah Jones, David Gray, Indigo Girls, Jack Johnson, Tracy Chapman, John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, and Dave Matthews. This channel tends to feature acoustic content, including acoustic recordings of popular songs by the above-mentioned artists. Prime Country is a 1980s and 1990s country radio station. The station mainly focuses on 1980s and 1990s country but also plays late 1970s and early 2000s music. Artists you will hear include Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood, Kenny Rogers and more. Alt Nation is a 2000s Alternative rock radio station. Alt Nation has become increasingly known for breaking new bands into the alternative rock radio scene. Artists on this station include Kings Of Leon, Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, Weezer, Muse, The Killers, Death Cab For Cutie, Silversun Pickups, Green Day. 1st Wave is a 1970s/1980s Alternative rock / new wave radio station. Artists you can hear on First Wave are Depeche Mode, The Cure, INXS, New Order, Erasure, and other classic alternative artists. The Bridge is a channel devoted to gold-based soft rock and adult contemporary music. The channel plays mainly 1970s acts such as Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, Carole King, Jackson Browne, Jim Croce, The Eagles and Billy Joel, along with some later '80s and '90s artists like Sting, Bonnie Raitt, and others.
