3 Introduction This users manual explains three basics elements for editing video material. 1. Transferring video material from the camera (DV) or DVD to the computer 2. Processing the video 3. Storing the processed video This users manual discusses the most common actions (basic steps) and will deal in less detail with the technical aspects. For these aspects, refer to the relevant literature available in reference works in the media library under the siso code N holt and N stuu. Important: A number of points must be carefully considered when working with video editing PCs. Always store your original tape or DVD and take it with you each time. Secure your tape against overwriting. If you wish to continue processing your film next time, store the studio-project file. This can be stored either on a USB stick or SD card, for example. The video editing PCs have no access to the Internet and the M-disk drive. Therefore make sure that you take your own files you wish to use in your film with you, for example on your USB stick, and store these files in your project folder on the D-drive. See paragraph 1.1. Always use the same PC!! This is because files are stored locally. If the media library is due to close and the PC is still rendering or burning, inform the staff at the counter that power must be left switched on!!! When you have concluded your project, delete your files and folders from the hard disk (D-drive)!!! The project folders are removed after 3 months. The media library bears no responsibility for the loss of files! 3

4 1 Start to work 1.1 Connecting the camera with harddisk to the computer Switch the computer on. Create your own work folder on the D:drive. Give the new work folder your name or the name of your project. Connect the camera with the USB cable to the computer and switch to play. Load film fragments A pop-up window will appear. Choose the option: Map openen en (open file and.). Go to: SD Video PRG001 Copy all MOD files to your own work folder on the D:drive. 4

Ensure that the video camera is connected to the adapter. Switch the computer on (also switch on the speakers). Create your own work folder on the D:drive. Give the new work folder your name or the name of your project. Place the DV tape in the video camera and switch to VCR or (play). Once the computer has fully started up, connect the other side of the Firewire cable to the camera. The connection point may differ from camera to camera. 5
