1 SEMESTER SCHEDULING WORKSHEET Directions: Use the following template to help you as you register for classes each semester. As you draft your schedule, consider the following: Review your major requirements. Have a copy of your major worksheet and CAPP Degree Evaluation to review. Use the College Catalog to check on course descriptions, pre-requisites, co-requisites and restrictions. Make an appointment with your academic advisor to discuss your schedule. Review the Schedule of Classes online and check the Registration Timetable for your assigned time slot. Make a list of the CRN s (Course Reference Number) that you wish to register for and a list of alternative CRN s. Note: Scheduling your classes is subject to a paid deposit and clearance of any holds on your account. 2 FRESHMAN YEAR During your freshman year, ENGAGE the York College community and connect with your academic advisor and career counselor. Be sure to attend collegesponsored events and explore various resources, especially those related to solidifying or choosing your major and possibly identifying a minor. Once you have declared your major, create a draft of your 4-year academic plan and discuss it with your Academic advisor. Directions: Use the following table to plan your remaining freshman year. Your schedule should include an array of Core and ADR courses, as well as introductory-level courses in your major. ALL NEWLY MATRICULATED STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO MEET WITH THEIR ACADEMIC ADVISOR PRIOR TO COURSE SCHEDULING. YCP - Academic Services 33

3 SOPHOMORE YEAR During your sophomore year, EXPLORE in greater depth majors and career options that would be a good fit with your skills, interests, values and goals. Begin to develop a plan to gain practical experience in fields that interest you. Be sure to work closely with your academic advisor and career counselor as you continue to create your academic plan. Directions: Use the following table to plan your sophomore year. Plan to include ADR courses, as well as an array of major-specific courses and/or electives. YCP - Academic Services 34

4 JUNIOR YEAR During your junior year, EXPERIENCE the real world by participating in meaningful, professional, career-related opportunities like internships and networking events. Seek greater knowledge of your discipline by focusing on your major requirements and learning from the professors in your department. Directions: Use the following table to plan your junior year. This year should include some ADR courses and a significant number of major-specific courses and/or electives. Junior year is also an excellent time to pursue internships, participate in Study Abroad or explore other experiential education opportunities to help build your unique academic experience. 5 SENIOR YEAR The goal of your senior year is to EMERGE from York College into a successful career by synthesizing all of your experiences in academics, volunteerism, leadership, employment, professional development and experiential learning (internships, etc.) into a plan for post-graduation success. Directions: Use the following table to plan your senior year. Your senior year should include a collection of upper-level major-specific courses and/or electives, as well as specific capstone courses.
