12 Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan Amount: A $40,500 per year maximum exists for a nine-month academic year. The total aggregate Stafford Loans for dental students is $224,000. Interest: Interest begins accruing for the borrower when funds are wired to the school. The interest rate while in school and throughout repayment is fixed at 6.8%. Repayment: The borrower has up to 10 years to repay this loan. Borrower enters repayment following six-month grace period immediately after graduation or withdrawal. Forbearance is available to qualifying borrowers during post-graduate training. Fees: There is a 1.0% origination fee on all Stafford Loans.

13 Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan Amount: Up to the Cost of Attendance minus other financial assistance. Interest: Interest begins accruing for the borrower when the funds are wired to the school. Interest rate while in school and throughout repayment is fixed at 7.9%. Repayment: The borrower has up to 10 years to repay this loan. Forbearance is available to qualifying borrowers during post-graduate training. Fees: There is a 4% origination fee on all Direct Grad Plus Loans. Credit based: Must pass credit check or apply with a qualified endorser

15 Federal Perkins Loan Amount: Award amounts are $8,000 a year with the maximum aggregate at $60,000. Parental information must generally be submitted on FAFSA. Interest: Interest does not begin accruing for the borrower until repayment begins. The interest rate is 5% and remains fixed throughout the life of the loan. Repayment: Each borrower has up to 10 years to repay this loan. Borrower enters repayment following a ninemonth grace period immediately after graduation or withdrawal. Fees: No origination or guarantee fee is taken out of the Federal Perkins Loan.

18 Complete 2012 Federal Tax Return before going to FAFSA web site and completing 2013/14 year FAFSA. Must be filled out each year (available January 1) to determine eligibility for federal financial aid. Apply on the web at

19 School will receive information electronically if student lists school code (G02477) Print out a copy and check it over to make sure it is accurate. Parental information not required for Federal Direct Stafford Loans, but must be included to be considered for Federal Perkins Loans.

20 After the school receives the FAFSA information, an award letter will be ed to the student 4-6 weeks before class starts, with instructions to complete the necessary applications and forms. If verification is required, we will request additional information from you. Accept, refuse, or modify the amounts offered, and then follow instructions on the checklist to request the loan funds.
