1 The Early College Planning Initiative A Project to help Families prepare financially for Higher Education Planning for College: What Can you do to Prepare Academically Welcome! Goals for this workshop: > Explore reasons for continuing your education after high school > Learn tips about how to prepare academically for college > Learn about college options > Learn strategies for choosing a school that is a good fit for you.
2 Why Should Your Student Go To College? 3 How Should Your Student Prepare for College? > Encourage a strong course schedule > Grades and completed courses are a big part of your student s college application > Know the course requirements of possible colleges > Encourage your student to challenge themselves take accelerated classes if they are available > Be aware of deadlines and other important dates How Should Your Student Prepare for College? College Entrance Exams > PSAT and PLAN: 10 th grade or early 11 th grade > SAT and ACT: 11 th and early 12 th grade > Prepare through regular coursework, practice tests, extra tutoring > Accommodations available for special needs > Financial assistance is available for test fees.

Be Involved In Activities & Leadership Opportunities > Volunteer in the community >Serve as a school officer or leader >Participate on a sports team >Be active in a club of interest >Work outside of school Where To Go To College?
