3. What benefits would you like to gain from specialisation?(you can tick more than 1 box) Others Recognition to other countries Prevent the mis-use of the title specialist by some private practises today Better pay Get up to speed with rest of the world Remuneration according to skill and knowledge level Fields of interest towards evidence based practice

4. What concerns do you have regarding specialisation?(you can tick more than 1 box) Others We need generalist. May be too specialised that we lack to treat patients or clients as a whole. Specialisation may also narrow the field of work. Many developed countries have specialised physiotherapists but that has not improved our profile or our profession. specialising too early resulting in insufficient knowledge of the other areas that you are not specialised in. Also, the specialisation (masters, Phd) may not necessarily result in better clinicians. It is just a paper qualification frankly. Our profession is a practicing profession, paper qualifications without clinical practice/experience does not help one become a better clinician Does specialisation depends on qualifications or a series of assessments? Does it translate to monetary gains or promotion and will that increase costs? might be difficult to know what one really likes to specialise in

4. What concerns do you have regarding specialisation?(you can tick more than 1 box) Others Availability of appropriate courses for specialisation locally - especially for small interest groups such as women's health Cost / increased cost Can be a tedious process in ensuring the specialist is delivering a good standard. The whole process may not worth the effort if other stakeholders do not give recognition Sometimes, If too specialised, that other physiotherapy skills (not directly related to specialisation) may be lost/weakened - thinking about Holistic therapeutic treatment of a patient. Geri specialisation but not forgetting MSK/ CP.

6. If you do not agree to the local postgraduate Masters programme, what are some of your concerns? (You can tick more than one box) Others nothing of the above-its about continous upgrading Ability to increase the number of locally trained therapists available for employment augment PT numbers Smooth integration from local clinical attachment to local working environment Probably can attract people are keen but have difficulty to sign up for oversea programme. It can also build up the profile of our profession. Standardise qualification of registered physiotherapists in Singapore Applicable to local context sponsorships/ funding Do not need to travel overseas Opportunity to attract foreign undergrads to obtain local recognised qualification and subsequently work in our healthcare system

7. If you do not agree to the local postgraduate Masters programme, what are some of your concerns? (You can tick more than one box) Others Need to first improve our degree in Physiotherapy. Need to determine our strengths and build on it. The depth of our knowledge and linking to our skill set is lacking. exposure to other health care systems and regulations not applicable difficult to provide a wide variety due to our small population of physios. not very feasible. Funding/ sponsorship The the course comparable to the ones who get oversea?

8. What specific specialities should this local postgraduate Masters program provide? (You can tick more than one box) Others All of the above Rehabilitation Women's health dont know. hard to decide because of the wide specialities. all area of physiotherapy (MSK, CP, NEURO, WOMEN'S HEALTH, PEADS, ETC) Any of the above where there's a good demand from the local PTs Nil Research to allow future upgrading to PhD Public health Women's health, disability evaluation and compensation

13. What are the likely benefits of having a local graduate entry master physiotherapy program? (You can tick more than one box) Others Nil To raise the standard will compromise patient care none of the above as a graduate entry masters is equivalent to a bachelor degree...just a short-cut for other to become a PT Don't see any benefit There will be a continuous nurturing of interest for the profession in individuals Nil specific benefit increase the "quality" of physiotherapists

13. What are the likely benefits of having a local graduate entry master physiotherapy program? (You can tick more than one box) Others Improved their interest of practice and confidence level, advanced knowledge in particular field Train physios with a varied knowledge backgrounds Good to have another batch of local trained PTs that are trained from another school. The different background and school hopefully will strengthen the profession further Develop the profession at a faster rate, e.g. first-contact practitioners recognised for insurance claims

14. What can be some of your concerns with a local graduate entry master physiotherapy program? (You can tick more than one box) Others sufficient clinical exposure within program, ie readiness to work not necessary if we have 2 to 3 local degree programs Adequate training in basic physiotherapy skills Cost of healthcare to patients since your PTs are more qualified Course quality: Too much to be squeezed into a shortened/ accelerated program, will it affect the quality of knowledge and understanding? whether direct entry course is as vigorous as 4 yr degree course which has heavy clinical / practical components Just a paper chase without added value.

14. What can be some of your concerns with a local graduate entry master physiotherapy program? (You can tick more than one box) Others Masters do not necessarily equate to better clinicians. Also masters can only be obtained for those areas which are general (eg. neuro, MS). What about the therapists who are in specialised areas like burns, spinal cord, amputee? easy misinterpretation and misuse/abuse of masters title insufficient clinical attachment hours leading to varying standards number of vancancies

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) Masterclass Training in the psychosocial aspects of physiotherapy as we move away from the biomedical model of healthcare provision More targeted courses for specific areas of physiotherapy Further education locally. Tie up with foreign universities for Masters/Phd program. Masters program with Flinders Uni/SGH has stopped, any other progression for local degree holders to convert to get a Masters/Phd without forking out large sums of funds. Can look into e-learning as possible platform, google Couresa, the next big thing, massive online learning, adopted by top Unis like Stanford and Harvard. Can we tie up with top notch Unis and start with 1-2 courses like these?

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) MS Recognition as a clinical specialist who is capable of dealing with more complex patient types and collaborating with other healthcare specialists to deliver best care Professional esteem. More structed professional pathways for all level physio graduates Clinical doctorate Advanced practise A framework to identify Cardiorespiratory Specialists and to have it standardised nation wide. This would be a step towards international recognition as a specialist. Research education / research Exercise specialisation. Clinical Research

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) To be updated with the latest findings in research (in any/all fields), and to have a forum to discuss the validity and applicability of the findings in the contexts of profession and culture in Singapore, i.e. does it have any relevance and added benefit in Singapore for the physiotherapists, for the patients and for the rest of health-care staff who are in one way or another affected/involved. Mentoring by clinical experts, overseas attachments Ongoing courses to upgrade and keep abreast of latest physiotherapy research in the market place Health management Optional electives with more than one field. Overseas attachment with relevant fields. Residency program - Specialist route - More developed research program

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) Women health - pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, pregnancy related musculoskeletal disorders, lymphedema management, exercise for women Paediatric - bobath, tracheostomy care, musculoskeletal sporting injuries Neurological rehabilitation, Research in physiotherapist, Specialised technique courses Strong research foundation and evidence based practices. Administrative and management clinical education Inter-hospital sharing of knowledge and skills Certified specialty course including hands on workshop with clinical training Rather than focusing on advanced specialisiation, it may be more important to consolidate the foundational training of the current program. We are noticing students and fresh graduates who are barely competent, and require further training in BASIC PT skills when arriving at the hospital.

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) Lateral development of profession. Eg: Physio as case manager or health coach Professional health coaching Inter professional learning and collaboration Opportunities for development of research capabilities. skills based courses taught by recognised PT experts Nil other comments More grants and support from the government for funding non sponsored students Masters or Doctoral programmes in Geriatric care.. Healthcare administration, community health. paeds Leadership and management in PT Education of PT Clinical teaching Development in the area of community rehabilitation

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) Continuous Learning points Business Development Healthcare Resource Management Frequent internationally recognized certification courses, workshops and short courses to be conducted in Singapore. inter profession collaboration/stints/work groups not too sure what this question is asking Good leadership more communication between hospitals. do we see each other as competition? Leadership, mentoring public health advocacy

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) More than 1 bachelor degree as quality cannot be assessed with SIT program only. Another program would help to ensure a sound base similar to medicine and law to name a few. Furthermore current SIT partner Trinity is not listed in the QS listing. Another program should come from a quality university and good choice are in Australia. More autonomy for practice. More funding to attend courses. Get to exposure to different specialities of physiotherapy ie open house or courses related to different specialities for us to attend to know more about different specialites ie what they do and responsibilities. Maybe some open sharing by experts from different fields about their experiences and why they chose to specialise in their fields. Healthcare development with population statistics and policy studies. Management skills Sports Physiotherapy & Musculoskeletal

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) - education in healthcare : for clinician-educator's role - healthcare management / advocacy : understanding healthcare policy and implications, how to engage healthcare professionals to advocate for changes healthcare system Certification courses Overseas training for advanced skills. A more vibrant SIGs. ie. each SIGs to have twitter/fb/ chatgroup where PTs can discuss ideas. Have twice yearly talk/gatherings from each SIGs. Consider SIGs for Community Care, Paediatrics, woman health. The smaller groups are the one who require more support as many of them work alone. specific clinical specialization. Cross professional specific clinical skill specialization. clinical skills and reasearch skills

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) 1. Short courses of specialisation beyond basic skills e.g. an experienced sports physio has specialised knowledge, advanced assessment skills and treatment options that are more developed than MSK physio. It's a skill set that is unique to those who have been exposed to the world of competitive and elite sports. Currently this is poorly recognised in Singapore, but in Australia, sports physiotherapy is not a sub-set of MSK, but a specialisation on its own. 2. Currently, a lot of local courses cover very basic material to attract the younger therapists who have lesser experience. The training options to more experienced therapists are very limited; in fact, they can even conduct the courses, but for some unknown mysterious reason, foreign therapists are always flying in to conduct costly training sessions here. Local seniors should have a chance to develop their teaching skills and contribute to the local knowledge pool. available specialist certification programs comparable to the American Physical Therapy Association OCS, NCS, PCS, etc Sexual health Oncology

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) health promotion, oncology and palliative speciality gerontology Palliative care How to be an entrepreneur PT? e.g. setting up private practice -How to collaborate and contribute back to society and other developing countries PT development through sharing of knowledge-based and experience Recognition of overseas qualifications in specialisation process rather than making it another business unit not assisting current population of experienced and well qualified physiotherapists. New approaches of therapy, targeting to older physiotherapists without going back to basic, which they should know. Make it available with in reach of public. Community based physiotherapy clinics to be encouraged public health, primar health

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) Regular workshop Biomechanics... leadership and management singapore health system Better quality of professional education Education exchange ideas/ sharing/ observation from other hospitals courses conducted by SPA, which result in diplomas/certifications, and at member rates, so our membership fees get put to good use. Basic research skill Musculoskeletal areas Musculoskeletal, Paediatric Other courses/ skills related to physiotherapy eg. pilates, sports science

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) short courses. updates on specialisation topics More local courses pertaining to women's & men's health field: - continence management - use of transabdominal and transperineal ultrasound in assessment of pelvic floor function - management of constipation Courses on how to set up registries in monitoring outcomes of current treatment strategies Courses done by local experts. e.g. McKenzie, Mulligan technique. Communication studies, greater depth of biopsychosocial models of health and how we navigate care for patients with issues beyond the physical Health promotion, Exercise Prescription

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) leadership Addressing long term care issues of population (NOT NURSING HOMES) and contribution of Physiotherapist in Preventive Medicine Musculoskeletal nuerophysiotherapy Short courses / workshops / seminars to add credit points to relevant field of professional practice. Increased collaboration with overseas physiotherapy association like the Australian Physiotherapy Association to introduce vakue-added learning programmes such as online webinars, short courses by visiting experts ( e.g. Level 1 Sports Physio Coursehttp:// s_invited_to_sports_physio_course_in_hong_kong.aspx ).etc Specialization courses Short term postgraduate certificate courses. eg: NSMDA,NDT, Lower limb Serial casting &splinting.

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) Regular courses to improve one's clinical skills/tools Dry needling, its gaining popularity worldwide, part of the syllabus in canada and australia already. Clinical rehab More courses in MS area I would like to have specialized fitness programmes and healthcare management programmes to be incorporated along the regular course I mean in the mainstream with more hours of clinical training to the student community. part-time lecturing and taking on student;s FYP projects Health care management, Health promotion Emergency physio, Post surgeries To have a biannual local physio conference or forum to get together and do an update on clinical practice and experience. I think this is helpful for inter institutions collaboration and research

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) Mental health management To recognise the professional development achievements of SPA members both in hospital and community settings. brain injury rehab amputee rehab chronic disease management physiotherapy involvement in public health. Education SPA endorsed certification workshops / courses. Can be run by external vendors but submitted to SPA for accreditation. More rigorous & formal training for physiotherapists looking to supervise students & junior colleagues More affordable PD courses Nothing that is already mentioned

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) physiotherapy management Musculoskeletal and Cardiorespiratory Definitely beneficial to have a masters course locally, especially for those with family obligations who may be unable to go overseas to take their masters psychology, counseling, soft skills Recognition of overseas masters in Singapore by the AHPC Research, Specialisation - Regular *rigorous 'post graduate' quality education programmes taught by respected teachers. - HMDP 'experts' are most of the time of restricted access to only public sector. More Womens health and musculoskeletal geriteric physiotherapy Pain Management, Palliative Care

15. What other area of professional development would you like to have? (Please comment) Lower cost of physiotherapy program & workshop. Online courses, forums Human resource, counselling, health economics To attain Doctorate in Physical Therapy more opportunities to develop as clinical educators and to be involved in research within and across institutions Health care management Paediatric Better salary Postgraduate diploma, Master's degree, Postgraduate certificate courses Regular CHEAPER certified courses. Short courses for private practioner/ managing a business, women's health
