3 Master of BUSINESS PROGRAM LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR The School of Business at The American University in Cairo offers the region s leading Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. The MBA is a professional degree designed to prepare students who have earned an undergraduate degree in any academic discipline for the pursuit of a managerial career. Our curriculum emphasizes underlying principles in business operations and advanced technical knowledge in relevant specializations. It provides tools for analysis and helps students develop a managerial perspective. At AUC s School of Business, we are proud to be among five percent of the world s 12,000 business schools that are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Our MBA program is taught by top-caliber national and international faculty members, who have experience from prominent universities around the world. 4 Program Accreditation In 2006, the School of Business at The American University in Cairo was accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). It is among just five percent of business schools around the world that meet the rigorous standards for accreditation by the AACSB. AACSB accreditation is the world s most widely recognized and sought after endorsement for business programs. It tells prospective students, faculty members and employers that this is an accredited school that produces graduates who are prepared to succeed in the business world a clear indication of the international quality of the MBA degree from AUC. Association to Advance Collegiate Schools (AACSB) AUC was established in Since 1982, AUC has held institutional accreditation from the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in the United States (MSCHE/Middle States). Intuitional accreditation is granted by Middle States for a period of 10 years, with periodic review. AUC s most recent reaccreditation was granted by the MSCHE commission on June 26, The accreditation status was reaffirmed subsequent to AUC s institutional self-study, which involved a visit by a team of peers from Middle States and consideration by the MSCHE board. In Egypt, AUC works with the Egyptian government within the 1975 protocol framework, which is based on the 1962 Cultural Relations Agreement between the Egyptian and U.S. governments. In the United States, AUC is licensed to grant degrees and is incorporated by the State of Delaware, United States of America. AUC Accreditation

Admission to the MBA program is competitive and limited. Criteria for admission include: A GMAT score of at least 550 TOEFL Test (the University s graduate admission requirements apply) Minimum GPA of 2.75 upon graduation Minimum of three years of professional experience. To obtain the MBA degree, a minimum of 33 semester credit hours and a maximum of 48 credit hours are required. The exact number of credits will be determined according to the educational background of each candidate. MBA Concentration Students must take at least three courses with a minimum of 9 credit hours. Students may choose one of the following concentrations: Finance International Business Leadership and Human Resources Management Management of Information Systems Marketing Operations Management Construction Engineering

6 Program Structure The program comprises of the following three components: MBA Foundation Courses MBA Electives and Concentration (18-27 credit hours) MBA Capstone Course (3 credit hours) MBA foundation courses aim to provide students with basic background on the various functional areas of business. Between one and nine courses are required for the completion of foundation courses. These courses are usually chosen from the following list: ACCT 501 Financial Reporting and Analysis (3 cr.) FINC 527 Managerial Economics (3 cr.) FINC 540 Financial Management (3 cr.) Advanced coursework for the MBA constitutes a diversified program aiming at providing the student with: a. General background on the concepts, processes, and institutions of finance, marketing, personnel and operations management b. Decision-making tools and techniques such as accounting, quantitative methods and management information systems c. For non-engineering students who apply to this new concentration, a minimum of two years of experience in the construction industry is preferred. Students who need remediation may be required to enroll in some non-credit courses. Students may declare a construction industry concentration by taking at least four courses in that area (12 credit hours) * Not open for AUC students with a degree in construction engineering concentrating in construction management. **Not open for AUC students with a degree in construction engineering.
