2. Understanding of Management Information System (MIS) General Approach The MIS encompass all necessary information for the management of a modern and successful organisation The MIS discipline brings together the various business areas, marketing, financing, human resource, etc. into manageable and aggregated management information. The MIS structure an organisation's informationtechnology and systems
How does it work? Uses the different sources of information within the organisation Refines and compiles the information from the different sources of information Provides accurate information on time to the decision-makers
Various MIS Concepts Management Information System (MIS) Project Performance Management System (PPMS) Environmental Management System (EMS) Quality Management System (QMS) Technical systems like Road Management System (RMS)
WBS Provides basis for determination of activity networks The development of the Organisational Breakdown Structure The development of the Cost Breakdown Structure Calculation of Earned Value
Preparation for MIS Who needs the information? Why do they need the information? What kind of information they need? How to refine the information?
MIS Information Processing Mode Manual collection and edit Computer collection and processing Both ways
Notes on choosing software We should consider the following factors: purpose personal use/team/institution cost and efficiency updating and maintenance system integration
Some advices on MIS software Training before application Presentation of software Combine your knowledge, experience and skill with the software
I need the software that can help me instead of bothering me.
Network Diagram The Network Diagram view displays tasks and task dependencies in a network or flowchart format. A box (sometimes called a node) represents each task, and a line connecting two boxes represents the dependency between the two tasks.
Critical Path The critical path is the series of tasks (or even a single task) that dictates the calculated finish date of the project. That is, when the last task in the critical path is completed, the project is completed. If it's important for your project to finish on schedule, pay close attention to the tasks on the critical path and the resources assigned to them. These elements determine whether your project will finish on time. The series of tasks are generally interrelated by task dependencies. Although there are likely to be many such networks of tasks throughout your project plan, the network finishing the latest is the project's critical path.
PERT charts Project Evaluation and Review Technique Show activities represented as boxes whose relationships to each other are shown by links represented as arrows/lines Best case - Expected case - Worst case probable outcome.
Program Evaluation and Review Technique PERT Tool which uses a probabilistic model Risk Management o m p Time o = Optimistic time m = Most likely time p = Pessimistic time The expected time will be : T( expected)= (o+4m+p)/6 The tool is part of the Microsoft Project Software
