1 MODULE DESCRIPTOR TITLE Public Speaking for PR MODULE CODE TOC (BHPR1003) CONFIRM LEVEL Level 4 CONFIRM CREDITS 3 DATE OF APPROVAL October 3, 2013 MODULE AIM - Rationale for the inclusion of the course in the programme This course serves as a foundation for students to acquire knowledge and practical skills in public speaking and presentation, in preparation for them to demonstrate hands-on expertise in speech writing and speaking in public for PR work. Objectives: To introduce students to knowledge and presentation skills required for public speaking as a public relations function. To guide students in information gathering, persuasive writing, and public speaking as part of PR practitioners work. To guide students in using visual aids and non-verbal communication to create effective speeches for PR work. MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES - The TAR UC module delivers to the appropriate level as follows: LO Ref Learning Outcome 1 Explain the terms, tools and process related to public speaking and speech writing. (C2, P2, A2, CS) 2 Write speeches that are professional and publicity-inclined. (C3, P2, A2, CS, LL) 3 Speak persuasively to an audience, based on topics related to PR and publicity events. (C3, P2, A2, C ASSESSMENT SUITABILITY A nice range of assessment for collaborative and individual approach to this subject consisting of: Individual Assignment Group Assignment Test or In-class Q & A or Progressive Work Report It is not quite clear how much of the assessment work is based on actual public speaking though. COMMENTS REGARDING INDICATIVE CONTENT A good range of aspects and approaches to public speaking are covered here. ANY ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS A bit more emphasis on actual public speaking as a specific part of the assessment would be useful for the sake of clarity with regards to how individual public speaking ability and performance is assessed.
