4 Paper Paper Sizes Paper Short & Long The grain direction for paper is either short grain or long grain. You have long grain whenever the fibres are parallel to the long side of the paper sheet. A sheet is short grain when the fibres are parallel to the short side. Because the aligned fibres give a paper it s different strength and folding characteristics, the grain direction is important to know for any Print Operator. Depending on the planned application, (portrait or landscape, folding, multiprints, etc), you need to decide between short and long grain papers to fit the application.
