2 M Trussell Director of IT September 2014 Purpose The purpose of this Acceptable Use of IT Policy (referred to as the AUP) is to ensure that students can safely benefit from the use of IT services that the Academy provides for teaching and learning purposes. IT services provided by the Academy include Internet, , network access (including Edmodo for Sixth Form students) and printing. All IT services provided by the Academy are a valuable resource for learning and a privilege. Therefore, if any aspect of this AUP is not adhered to this privilege will be withdrawn in consultation with the Director of IT, Deputy Principal(s) and the Principal. Use of the Academy IT services at any time will be regarded as formal acceptance of the AUP and declaration and that parent(s)/carer(s)/guardian(s) have read and accepted them as part of the home-school agreement. Sanctions/Consequences The Academy Behaviour for Learning policy will be applied to any student that does not adhere to the AUP. Such sanctions will be decided in discussion with the Director of IT, Deputy Principal(s) and/or the Principal. These may include (but are not limited to): Limited and timed access to IT accounts and resources Suspension of Academy IT accounts and resources

3 Statement of Acceptable Use I understand that the use of Academy IT services is a privilege and that when using the them I will: only log on using my own username, keep my password secret and log off/lock my computer when not in use report any suspected breach of network security (whether by myself or others) to a member of staff only use the Academy s computers for Academy-related work use my Academy appropriately clearly record the sources of downloaded material report any accidental damage immediately to a member of staff report any misuse of the IT services to a member of staff only use the Academy printers for the paper-based production of my own Academyrelated work adhere to any relevant legislation that applies to my use of IT services within the Academy, such as the Data Protection Act 1998, Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1998 and Computer Misuse Act 1990 I will not: interfere with, modify or damage the Academy computers or peripherals, the Academy systems or network in any way access any sites that are offensive because of pornographic, racist, violent or illegal content allow copyrighted material (eg video files) to be stored, viewed or transmitted on the Academy server(s) subscribe to auto-mailing systems make public any personal information including names, addresses, credit card details, telephone numbers or photographs harass or abuse fellow students or members of staff through the use of obscene or offensive language or images, either on the Academy network or via external social networking sites (i.e. cyberbullying)

4 Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Term of Service and Acceptable Use The Academy provides students with access to filtered Wi-Fi Internet access within Academy buildings/premises. Students are able to bring their own device to connect to this but the following terms apply: When using this service, parent(s)/carer(s)/guardian(s) agree: 1. That the full AUP will apply to the use of the Academy s BYOD Wi-Fi access 2. That the student has permission to bring their own device to the Academy and for the student to connect to the Academy Wi-Fi 3. That the student is responsible for the device 4. That the Academy reserves the right to revoke and/or terminate BYOD Wi-Fi access at any time 5. That the Academy is not and cannot be held liable for any damage (including both hardware and software) or costs incurred whilst using a non-academy owned device on Academy premises 6. That the Academy will not provide IT Support for a non-academy owned device When using this service, the student agrees: 1. That they have sought the permission of their parent(s)/carer(s)/guardian to bring their own device to the Academy 2. That their parent(s)/carer(s)/guardian(s) are aware of the BYOD terms of service (as stated above) 3. That they are responsible for their own device 4. That the full AUP will apply to the use of the Academy s BYOD Wi-Fi access 5. That the device cannot be used in lesson(s) unless instructed by Academy staff Declaration I understand that my Academy account is not, and cannot be, regarded as private and will be subject to random monitoring. I understand that if I am found not to be complying with this policy I will be denied access to the computer network for a time to be determined by the Academy. I also understand that I may face further disciplinary action depending on the nature of the offence, including the recovery of any costs for repair(s) if required. 5 E-Safety Statement In a world where information technology is becoming an essential component of daily communication, interaction and business, it is important that students are fully aware of the impact of information technology and how to use this safely. The academy will ensure that all students are provided with this important information and are aware of the methods of reporting any inappropriate use of information technology and can report it. The academy provides the following: When students enter the academy in year 7 they will be taught discrete lessons in their introductory Computing lessons about what an acceptable use policy is, why passwords are important and why they need to keep them and their personal details safe. Throughout the Computing curriculum, there are opportunities provided for students to explore the threats posed by information technology, such as online risks, and how to prevent and report them. Assemblies and tutorials are delivered to outline how to keep safe online, use social networking safely and methods of reporting suspicious activity. Such previous assemblies and tutorials include the delivery of the CEOP ThinkUKnow materials to students. Staying safe online is regularly re-visited in Computing lessons, particularly before holiday time. Legislation that covers the use of information technology, such as Copyright, Health and Safety, Data Protection and Computer Misuse are introduced in the Key Stage 3 Computing curriculum and thoroughly explored throughout the Key Stage 4 and 5 ICT curriculum. Regular monitoring and auditing of the network is conducted by our onsite IT engineers. Our academy IT systems are monitored at all times using network auditing software, with audit logs kept of network usage. The software we use is Impero. Our network is filtered and protected using two Lightspeed filtering systems. This also filters our BYOD provision. This system was installed, replacing our former system, in September A full internal and external review of the filtering policies applied took place in September Network filtering and applied policies are regularly reviewed by onsite IT engineers. The acceptable use policy is provided as part of the home-school agreement and is published on the academy website. This is reviewed annually by the Director of IT. As well as being able to report to any member of staff, a bullying hotline is provided for students to report any issues of cyber-bullying and these will be investigated and dealt with in accordance with the academy safeguarding and behaviour and safety policies.
