3 AHS Technology Policy Abingdon High School believes that technology should be an integral part of teaching and learning. It is a powerful tool that teachers use in conjunction with the state and national technology standards to enhance the learning process. 6 Technology for Everyone Abingdon High School wants to give everyone an equal opportunity for learning. Technology can provide an excellent way to reach students of all ability levels and to accommodate students with special needs.

8 Equitable Access 6 Computer Labs: 136 internet-accessible computers 2 Mobile Labs (24 Wireless laptops in each unit) Assistive technology for special needs students Library equipped with LCD projector & Smart Board 25 internet-accessible computers, available for student use M-F; 7:45 am 4 pm After school computer access: Computer Lab (with teacher permission & supervision) 30 digital projectors & 30 Smart Boards in Classrooms Goal of incorporating Smart Board and handheld PDAs into every core classroom

13 AHS Acceptable Use Policy Safety Issues Teacher guidance and observation Do not share personal information Do not share info with, accept files from, or meet face to face any unknown user. Prohibited behavior Inappropriate postings or communication Plagiarism, copyright violations, and other illegal activities Downloading games, music, etc. Using unauthorized programs or damaging systems

15 Teachers and Parents Can Help Talk to students about the importance of web safety and ethical use. Work with students to learn about new technology. Model acceptable use and support Washington County School s enforcement of policies. Show students how to differentiate between appropriate, reputable websites and inappropriate, invalid ones. Encourage students proper use of technology for learning, communication, and creation.
16 Teachers and Parents Can Help Encourage students to observe ACUP rules concerning safety and ethics on the computer Create a list of acceptable, appropriate, and reliable websites which they are allowed to visit and use as academic resources Establish criteria that qualify websites as appropriate and allowable for student use
