This report only includes advertised prices for Outlets ending during the period of July 3 thru July 8, Sizzling 4th of July Specials Its time for the entire nation to fire up the grill in celebration of Independence Day this weekend. are patriotically decorated and full of everything needed for a Star Spangled Bash. Watermelon, berries, and sweet corn were on nearly every front page this week joining hamburger, steaks, ribs, and other grilling favorites. The produce pages were filled seasonal favorites including peaches, nectarines, cherries, plums, pineapples, mangos, avocados, grapes, squash, sweet onions, tomatoes, and all varieties of lettuce. Total ad numbers this week are 399,210, a slight increase from the last weeks 395,853 ads. The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 231,011 (which is 58 of all ads), onions and potatoes 26,794 (7), vegetables 137,600 (34), herbs 1,278, and ornamentals 2,527. The number of ads for organic produce are 51,931, 13 of total ads. The following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus stores) this week compared to the same week last year. There are no significant increases in price for fruit items this week. Fruit that decreased in price include black seedless grapes at 21, blueberries (1 pt) at 19, nectarines at 16, blackberries, cantaloups, white seedless grapes, and plums all at 14, both red seedless grapes and white flesh nectarines both at 10. There were no significant increases or decreases in onions and potatoes prices. Significant increases in vegetable prices this week include tomatoes (per lb) at 19. Significant decreases in vegetable prices this week include yellow squash at 19, Zucchini squash at 18, and cucumbers at 10.
