1 Standardization Update: Open Networking Foundation (ONF) Brussels, 10th October 2012 Peter Feil, Deutsche Telekom AG, T-Labs Life is for sharing. Telekom Innovation Laboratories
2 The Open Networking Foundation (ONF): Software-defined networking based on open-source systems can bring the next leap towards the Future Internet. Technological open-source Pillars OpenFlow: Flow-based control protocol between switches and controller. OpenController: Control unit for network flows. OpenController OpenFlow Protocol OpenFlow Engine Network Switch The founding Consortium The Open Networking Foundation aims to accelerate innovation in the domain of IP networks. Endorsing the use of open-source systems more competition in the IP router and switch market is expected. Open interfaces can bring enhanced flexibility and new network-based applications The ONF officially started in March 2011 and took over the OpenFlow-related standardization/specification from Stanford University. Telekom Innovation Laboratories 2
