1 2012 Passing Rates for Nursing Graduates In The North Carolina Community College System The 2012 Passing Rates for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) and the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) for the North Carolina Community College System is provided for your information. 2 2012 Passing Rates for Nursing Graduates In the North Carolina Community College System North Carolina Administrative Code 21 NCAC (e) states The nursing program shall maintain a three year average at or above 95 % of the national pass rate for licensure level pass rate on first writing of the licensure examination for calendar years ending December 31. National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) national pass rate average 85% Benchmark = 95% of the National Pass Rate Average; this year s benchmark is 81% All PN programs pass rates were above 81%. National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) national pass rate average 88% Benchmark = 95% of the National Pass Rate Average; this year s benchmark is 84% Four ADN programs were below 84%. Based upon the NC Board of Nursing s policy, When a program has demonstrated significant progress in meeting the NCLEX pass rate standard, it will be returned to or maintained on Full Approval Status. Significant progress is demonstrated by achievement of: Current year pass rate that meets or exceeds 95% of the current year national pass rate. In 2012, 95% of the current year (90%) national pass rate is 86%. The 4 ADN programs met this provision and are in Full Approval Status. 9 First time test takers of the NCLEX-RN Boards The North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) provides pre-licensure education for the majority of graduates that sit for the NCLEX-RN examination in North Carolina. For example: In 2008, 3,810 nursing graduates in N.C. took the NCLEX-RN for the first time. Of this total, 2,108 (or fifty-five percent) graduated from the NCCCS.
