The survey results are effective April 1, 2007 and include data on nearly 13,800 incumbents in 690 benchmark positions an increase of close to 6% year over year. This survey report includes detailed information on Using the Survey Results, Survey Overview, Long-term Incentive Plans, Benefits Prevalence, and Regression for select core-ccbf positions. The CCBF Steering & Survey Committees, along with Mercer, would like to thank the organizations that submitted data to make the survey a success. In January 2008, there will be an additional option in My Accounts to access this database, as suggested by CCBF members. Page 1

Twenty-six (26) of the Forum's 32 member organizations were in attendance. Mercer would like to thank all attendees for their active participation and commitment to the overall success of the CCBF survey. Outstanding Data Issues After the conference, some members had questions regarding some of the data presented during the Trends & Highlights section of the CCBF Post Survey Results Meeting. They were interested in looking into the matches for three positions. Below are the three positions and information regarding how organizations have matched to these positions: Accounting Director Some organizations providing multiple matches with low base salaries. Finance Director Some organizations providing multiple matches with low base salaries. CFO (Subsidiary/Division) A couple organizations providing multiple matches with high base salaries. Working Session: CCBF Benefits Monitor Options Sean Luitjens from Mercer presented on benefits benchmarking and demonstrated the different types of benefits data deliverables that Mercer can provide. He discussed what information is included in each report and the methodology used to produce these valuation reports. CCBF members at the conference were then able to address their needs and wants regarding benefits benchmarking. On the following page there are a couple options that were discussed at the conference. These will also be discussed with the Steering & Survey Committees at the upcoming planning meeting. The committees will then recommend next steps to the broader membership. Page 2

4 Revised Canadian Compensation and Benefits Forum By-Laws In September 2007, the Steering Committee drafted some revisions to the CCBF By-Laws. CCBF Members discussed these changes and approved the following: Participation in the total remuneration survey is a requirement for membership in the Forum. Member companies who do not participate in the survey for a given year will not receive access to the survey results and will not be eligible to attend the results meeting in the fall. Those member companies who do not participate in the survey for two consecutive years in a row will have their membership automatically suspended from the Forum. The primary member who attends scheduled meetings and conferences of the Forum should be a senior compensation or compensation and benefits person responsible for Canadian compensation. Late participants will be charged a penalty fee of $500 CDN, subject to change, as set by the CCBF Steering Committee. If a member company does not comply with the Forum by-laws, the company s continued membership must be submitted to a vote by all other member companies, with approval of 2/3 of the other member companies to be required for continued membership New member companies should add to the diversity of the membership, including representatives from both food and non-food consumer packaged goods companies. The Steering Committee will review recommendations for new Forum members and submit them to the forum members for review and approval at the Fall Conference New Member Recruitment Heinz and Abbott have applied for membership in Members in attendance at the Fall Conference voted against these membership applications Proposed Positions At the Spring Conference, the following positions were proposed as new additions to the Mercer Benchmark Database: Budget Director Financial Analysis Director Channel Director Mercer, along with members of the Steering and Survey Committees, will review this list of potential jobs in the weeks to follow to determine the feasibility of adding these new roles in Your Assistance is Needed! If you have these positions within your organization, please send all relevant job description documents to [email protected] to help us better understand the positions and enable us to develop appropriate benchmark descriptions. Forum Lounge Since there are few regular users of the forum lounge, the group discussed its status. The group voted to keep the lounge for the time being. Page 4
5 Third Party Use of Data/Reports CCBF data, reports and materials are protected by Mercer copyright. If a CCBF member engages a third party on an assignment for which they need CCBF data, the member needs to sign and have the third party sign a third party confidentiality agreement. The agreement states that the third party may only use the data in the context of their assignment with that particular client. Members were provided with a sample copy of this agreement at the meeting. Hot Topics Geographic Differentials: Members were asked how organizations are structuring their pay for employees working in different regions/cities. Some responses included: Using different attraction methods (ie. flex days, increase in benefits etc.) instead of a geographic base pay differential Reviewing cost of living and making adjustments where necessary Considering implementing a separate salary structure for western market Most organizations are not worried about their sales and marketing positions leaving the organization to work in the Western Market What is your organization doing about the new February Family Day holiday? 16 member organizations are absorbing this holiday in their policy, rather than providing an additional day Most member organizations are keeping their total # of floaters and holidays at 12 What are your overtime policies? 10 member organizations are changing or examining their overtime policy to reflect recent legal cases One organization will provide premium for high peak periods St. Lawrence River Retirement Plan Relative Value Survey Christine Ward from Unilever Canada Inc. presented the results of a recent study conducted by Mercer to benchmark their current pension plan design.
