The customer wanted additional height that a 3/12 pitch cathedral bottom cord truss would provide. The building featured 8 ft. steel-reinforced pre-cast concrete piers provided by Heartland Perma-Column. The building was erected on 4 ft. of fill dirt, so deeper footings were attained via column extensions for the pre-cast concrete piers. The 64 ft. long building used wooden posts with 72 ft. wide clear-span steel trusses by 64 Metals. Lumber, cladding and insulation materials were provided by BCI. Posts were placed 16 ft. on center. The building was erected in 21 days at a cost per square foot of only $ This hybrid post-frame design provided exceptional clear-span and height clearance, economy and quick construction. To request photos or other information, contact Thomas Johnson of Superior Outdoor Structures, authorized dealer for Better Built Structures: (918) or toll free at (877)
2 Shergain LLC Wick Buildings & Homes Wins NFBA- in the Commercial Category The of the National Frame Building Association (HNFBA) held its annual convention and trade show, The in the Commercial category went to Shergain LLC Wick Buildings & Homes, Platte City, Mo. The 80 x 51 ft. building was erected in only 8 days at a cost per square foot of $16. The post-frame design provided the most cost-effective option, and the result was aesthetically pleasing building option. Darin Swigart of Show-Me Trucking remarked, I had no clue what I really wanted for my wife to have a reasonable priced, functional and attractive facility. Harold Sherwood of Shergain Wick Buildings started showing me various options and doing coparison pricing and he and my wife came up with this design. We both appreciated theextra time and follow-up service and expertise. To request photos or other information, contact Harold Sherwood, (816)

4 Quality Structures, Inc. Wins NFBA- in the Residential Housing Category The of the National Frame Building Association (HNFBA) held its annual convention and trade show, The in the Residential Housing category went to Quality Structures, Inc., Richmond, Kans. Quality Structures received the Award for the Kuckelman Farm project, built for Mike Kuckelman. The building crew was AY Construction, foreman Abe Yoder. The structure serves as a secondary residence and equipment storage for the family. The home features a 12x32 continuous concrete footing with Sturdi-Wall drill-set column anchors and engineered trusses to provide a 30 ft. clearspan. An attached shop utilizes foundation-grade treated three-ply laminated columns by Ohio Timberland Products on 4 ft. deep embedded footings and 40 ft. clearspan trusses. The climate-controlled areas employed R-19 wall batts and R-38 ceiling batts with fewer breaks in the insulation than conventional construction for exceptional energy-efficiency. The home features brick wainscot and steel siding and roofing by ABC (Omaha), Symington Double-Hung windows, fiberglass doors by Mid-Am Builing Supply, and sheetrock for the interior finish. Unique accessories include a 4 ft. cupola with glass sides, flying gables, peak extensions, gable eyebrows and Y-brace columns on the porch. The design represents a classic T-barn style that includes a lofted residential area with full wrap-around porch. The post-frame method allowed for economy on the shop portion and an easier tie-in to the residence structure. The building was erected in 19 days at a cost per square foot of only $64. To request photos or other information, contact Bill Gorman, Quality Structures, Inc., (816)
5 National Barn Company Wins NFBA- in the Suburban Buildings Category The of the National Frame Building Association (HNFBA) held its annual convention and trade show, The in the Suburban Buildings category went to National Barn Company, Fort Gibson, Okla. National Barn received the Award for their storage, dormitory, riding arena and horse barn project, built for Julie Schoenhofer. The building includes a 70x140x14 ft. indoor riding arena, 60x90x12 horse barn with fourteen 12x12 horse stalls, a 12x12 tack room, a 12x12 wash bay, a 12x24 feed room, and three 12x24 dormitory rooms for three ranch hands to live in. Each dorm room has phone and kitchen and bathroom. The customer only wanted concrete in the tack, feed, dorms and wash bay. Post-frame saved them a lot of money by avoiding the use of concrete for the building s foundation. The horse barn boards 14 horses and connects to the side of the arena. 5x5 posts and 3-ply laminated columns were installed 12 ft. on center. Cladding and roofing provided by Central States Mfg., windows by Atrium Vinyl, doors by Plyco and Western Products, fasteners by Sealtite and Insulation by Martin Building Products. The building was erected in 40 days at a cost per square foot of only $9.44. This hybrid post-frame design provided exceptional clear-span and height clearance, economy and quick construction. To request photos or other information, contact Brian Keane, National Barn Co., (918)

Post-frame offered the customer a better value compared to other framing methods. It offers more design flexibility to incorporate additional features such as a loft, stalls and stirrup guards. Mr. Brown wrote to us saying The whole team did a fantastic job! and rated his satisfaction a 5 on a scale of 5. The building features foundation-grade treated three-ply laminated columns by Ohio Timberland Products on 4 ft. deep embedded footings. The exterior finish sports a stone wainscot and steel siding. Interior finished walls are of full height 2x6 tongue-in-groove wood panels with a urethane finish. The stall barn features flying gables, and the riding arena features turkey tails. The riding arena includes an air conditioned lounge for arena viewing and a dust control sprinkling system. Stall components provided by Stall Works, wainscot, steel siding and roofing by ABC (Omaha), windows by General Aluminum, and doors by Mid-Am Building Supply.
