6 YEAR * PAYBACK A GUIDE TO DOMESTIC RENEWABLE HEAT INCENTIVE () SOLAR THERMAL SOLUTIONS
RENEWABLE HEAT INCENTIVE KINGSPAN SOLAR RENEWABLE HEAT INCENTIVE () EXPLAINED The Renewable Heat Incentive is intended as a financial support scheme to encourage the installation of renewable heating systems in UK homes and to reduce the number of homes using fossil fuels. 1 Generate your own free energy Why should I install a renewable heating system? 2 Protect your home from future fuel price rises 4 Reduce your energy bills 3 Reduce your carbon footprint Tariffs The tariff levels (p/kwh) The tariffs are calculated on the basis of a 7.5% return over 20 years being paid over a 7 year period. Whilst the calculation has been based to provide the best results in a non gas area, the scheme is available throughout the UK in both on and off gas areas. Solar Thermal 19.2p Air Source Heat Pumps 7.3p Ground Source Heat Pump 18.8p Biomass 12.2p s are made quarterly in arrears for. Tariffs will change annually in line with RPI. Degression will be imposed on reaching published targets. Applicants may apply for tariff support on solar thermal installations in conjunction with any other qualifying technology.
Who can apply for Domestic? Owner Occupiers Private Landlords Social Landlords Third Party Owners Self-Builders What are the Conditions? Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) approved products or Solar Key marked (solar thermal products only) will be eligible. Second homes will be eligible if metering is installed. All installations (including legacy applications) will require a Green Deal Assessment other than Self Builders who will only require an EPC. Householders who received the RHPP will have this amount deducted from any future payments to avoid a double subsidy. Property insulation must meet minimum standards. Installations must have been completed by an MCS approved installer. All necessary planning permissions should be in place. Solar Thermal can be used for domestic hot water only. Space heating or pool heating does not qualify. Legacy qualifiying installs from 15/07/09. New self-build properties will be eligible. Performance will be deemed except: 1. Hybrid systems will require metering to guarantee that only renewable heat is rewarded. 2. Those volunteering for metering where an incentive will be paid ( 230 pa HP, 200 Biomass). 3. An audit selection by DECC who will pay for the cost of metering. 4. Second homes. How Do I Apply? Applicants will need to complete a Green Deal Assessment before submitting their application and ensure that they meet the conditions above. The will be administered by the energy industry regulator Ofgem. You will need to sign up to the register and complete an application form. More information can be obtained from:
RENEWABLE HEAT INCENTIVE KINGSPAN SOLAR KINGSPAN SOLAR THERMAL SOLUTIONS Why solar thermal? Solar thermal is a clean and sustainable method of providing homes with hot water. As with all Kingspan Solar products the technology is simple but highly efficient, providing an environmentally responsible and cost-effective alternative to traditional energy sources. Typically, a solar thermal system can save you up to 70% on your annual hot water heating costs so it s good for the planet and good for your wallet, too! How much can be earned? Households installing solar heating will be paid 19.2 pence per kilowatt-hour (kwh) of solar heat generated for the first seven years, index linked. For solar thermal systems the renewable heat generated will be based on the estimate of system performance completed as part of the MCS installation. The energy generation is calculated at installation time and payments based on this figure. Free energy! Many people believe that solar collectors only work in the summer, however this type of free energy is available throughout the year. Kingspan Solar collectors operate not just with direct sunlight, but also diffused sunlight, so they even work on cloudy days. 19.2p per kwh Solar Thermal for 7 Years How does solar thermal work? 6 Domestic Hot Water The Solar Panel Condensing System Boiler Pump Station & Controller 2 1. The solar panels collect energy from the sun which increases temperature of the heat transfer fluid contained within the panels. 2. When the fluid in the panels is hot enough, the pump station circulates the hot fluid around the system. 3. The hot fluid is pumped around the coil at the bottom of the solar cylinder and heats the water that is stored inside. 4. The solar controller enables you to time your hot water, just like a central heating programmer, and measure the amount of energy you have gained from the sun. 5. If the solar panel didn t collect enough energy to heat the hot water to the required temperature, a supplementary heat source (e.g. gas or oil boiler) is required to top up the water temperature. 6. Hot water can then be used through your taps, bath and showers. BENEFITS 3 Twin Coil Solar Generates free hot water. Environmentally friendly. Reduces carbon footprint. Cuts your energy bills up to 60%. Works efficiently in all weather conditions.
THERMOMAX VACUUM TUBES Kingspan Thermomax vacuum tubes are specifically designed for operation in northerly climates and can have 30% more energy gain than flat plates. The vacuum inside each tube provides perfect insulation and suppresses heat loss by protecting the system from outside influences, which results in optimum performance levels all year round. FEATURES Up to 30% more energy gain than Flat Plate Panels. Wet & Dry Systems available. Plug & Play Design means they are easily fitted and replaced. Recommended for domestic use. Unique temperature limitation safety device. New slim-line manifold. Examples of how much could be earned from installing Thermomax Vacuum Tubes Number of People Per Household Collector Model Solar Heat Generated (kwh/yr) (kwh/yr) Oil Boiler (75%) + Replacement 1. The solar heat generated is based on the Deemed Energy from the MCS installer standard (MIS3001) calculation. 2. The energy saved is based on a Condensing Gas Boiler (77%) or a Condensing Oil Boiler (75%), including upgrading to a well insulated solar storage cylinder 3. The figures are calculated on a value of 19.2p/kWh 4. The value of saving over 25 years is based on a Gas Price of 4.7p/kWh or an Oil Price of 6.5p/KWh, with an estimated annual inflation rate of 2.5% for oil and 2.8% for gas. 5. The calculations are based on the City of Birmingham with a due south orientation and an ideal inclination of 37.
