1 Description of the EMBA degree Title of the Program and that of the Degree: This program will be known as Evening MBA program and the students after completing all the requirements of the program will get a Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA). Degree Requirements: This Evening MBA program will be a 66 credit-hours program. Every student must undergo an internship program or project paper weighing 3 credit hours and 3 credit points for Viva-voce after completion of all taught courses. Specific Requirements for the Degree of EMBA: The student must complete maximum of 66 credit points including 3 credit points for Viva-voce after completion of all taught courses and then students will complete 3 credit points for project paper// Internship with defense for the duration of minimum 3 months and maximum 4 months. The candidate obtaining CGPA of less than 2.00 (out of 4.00) shall not be eligible for the award of EMBA degree. Distribution of Credit Points and Marks for Evening MBA Program at a Glance: Particulars Total No. of Courses & Viva-Voce Marks in each Course & Viva- Voce Total Marks Credit Points in each Course & Viva-Voce Total Credit Points Taught Courses Viva-Voce 1 time Project paper/internship with Defense Grand Total Admission Requirements: Graduates (of 3 years courses and if less, with masters) in any discipline may apply for appearing at the admission test to be conducted by the Faculty twice a year. Work experience of a candidate will be preferred. Admission criteria will be determined by the EMBA administration committee. Provided that, the students admitted in this program must not be entitled to any regular transport, residential and any other facility of the university.
2 Duration of the Program: This is a six semesters (two years) program inclusive one Semester in internship placement or research project under a supervisor. But a student must complete the degree within 4 years from the date of his/her registration. Academic Year and Semester: English calendar year will be the academic year for this program and this year will be divided into three Semesters as stated below. Spring Semester January to April 4 Months Summer Semester May to August 4 Months Fall Semester September to December 4 Months There is one class of 3.00 hours for each course in a week (in total 13 classes in a semester where 10 classes for teaching and 3 classes for two mid-term tests and presentations). Therefore, Distribution of weeks in each semester will be as follows: a) Class teaching =13 weeks b) Semester-final examination = 03 weeks Total =16 weeks An academic calendar will be designed by the EMBA administration committee at the beginning of every Semester and every effort will be made to complete the courses within the-period specified in the calendar. Grading System: Course teacher(s) will be responsible for developing course outlines with relation to the established syllabus, setting questions and marking scripts and grading students and course teacher(s) will be required to submit final letter grades to the Batch Coordinator, as explained below:
3 Students will be awarded with grades in each course as per the following grading policy as approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC): Grade Grade point Marks A % & above A %-79% A %-74% B %-69% B %-64% B %-59% C %-54% C %-49% D %-44% F 0.00 Below 40% I Incomplete W Withdrawal Evaluation: Student s performance in a course will be evaluated as stated below: Mid-term tests : (Two) 40% Term Paper/Assignment/Case Presentation 10% Final Examination 40% Attendances 10% Total 100% Class Attendance: The marks allocated for class attendance shall be given as following proportions: Attendance Mark Example 90% and above 100% 10 out of 10 80% to 89% 90% 9 out of 10 70% to 79% 80% 8 out of 10 60% to 69% 70% 7 out of 10 Less than 60% 00% 0 out of 10. Academic Calendar will be designed by the EMBA administration committee.
4 Award of Degrees: Patuakhali Science and Technology University will award degrees on the recommendation of the EMBA administration committee. Students completing the required credit hours with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.00 will be eligible for a degree. But none will get a degree with an F grade in any course. Retake (R) and Improvement: A student earning F grade in a course shall be required to improve the grade by retaking the course on payment of requisite fees offered in the subsequent available semester. A student earning a grade of B or worse may also elect to improve the grade by improvement examination within 3 consequent semesters on payment of improvement exam fees. However, a candidate can not improve or retake any course after graduation. In this case the concerned student shall have to apply to withhold his/her graduation to the coordination committee. In the above situations the transcripts will show credit, Grade and R (Retake) against the retaking course. Students will be allowed to retake course(s), and the student must apply to the Coordination Committee at least 4 weeks before the commencement of the semester. Any application for retaking course(s) will automatically lead to cancellation of his/ her earlier grade. Irregular Candidate: A student who has entered for appearing at the examination but failed to present himself/herself at the examination or failed to pass the examination, he/she is eligible to appear at the two subsequent examinations as an irregular candidate. Re-admission: (i) (ii) A student having less than 45% class attendance shall have to be re-admitted in the session that immediately follows within 30 days from the last date of depositing examination fees due from him/her as per his/her first admission to the EMBA program. On re admission, the students shall have to retake all the course(s) and examinations including internal evaluation. Adoption of Unfair Means: If any student adopts unfair means in any examination, the teacher/invigilator on duty shall take proper action and report it in writing to the Director of the program through the Chief invigilator of the concerned Examination for onward transmission to the Disciplinary Board of the Centre for action as per PSTU exam rules.
5 Class Attendance: A student shall have to attend 60 % of classes held in a course. Otherwise he/she will be treated as non-collegiate and not be allowed to sit for exam. However a student having at least 45% of attendance may be allowed for exams upon production of an application and payment of noncollegiate fines (Per Course Tk. 500). Drop Out If a student fails to earn required total credit points within four academic years since admission he/she will be dropped-out from the program and will no more be allowed to continue his/her studentship with other students. Credit Transfer No credit transfer from any other Programs/Universities/Institutions to the Patuakhali Science and Technology University is allowed for the Evening MBA degree. Admission Cancellation and Withdrawal from any Course/ Courses (a) If a student remains totally absent without any permission from all classes for 15 (fifteen) consecutive working days after the start of classes, her/his admission would be cancelled on the recommendation of the Program Director of the concerned Department. (b) A student shall never take admission simultaneously in more than one program of this University or any other higher institution with an exception of Certificate/Diploma course. If the stated clause is violated, studentship, examination, and examination results of the reported student shall immediately be cancelled. (c) After registration a student may withdraw the course/courses in any time in each trimester and/or may cancel her/his studentship but he/she shall have to sacrifice all course fees, trimester fee except registration fee in case of 1 st trimester only and in case other trimester s/he shall have to sacrifice all fees and charges including registration fee. Teaching Method The department follows the modern teaching method for its students. Class lectures are supplemented by case analysis, term papers, field visits, computer applications and guest lectures by key business executives and professionals in the country. All classrooms are equipped with overhead projectors, multimedia devices and sound systems. In addition, multimedia overhead projectors are to be managed for class presentations by students. The medium of instructions is English.
6 Project Paper/ Internship Paper Preparation: Apart from course work students are required to prepare a Project Paper/Internship Paper after completing their required taught courses. This is done under the guidance of a supervisor for a period of maximum four months and minimum three months. This requires 3 credit points. The students must follow the following specific guidelines/information for this purpose: a. Attachment for Project Paper/Internship Paper preparation for three months in private business organizations, government offices, public sector corporations or banks or financial institutions is an integral part of Evening MBA Program. Another one month for defence. b. The objective of this initiative is to acquaint the students with the organization and its work situation. c. Each student is required to prepare a report according to a format specified by the supervisor. d. The date of selection of Supervisors by the Evening MBA Program Coordination Committee is the starting date of preparation of Project Paper/Internship Paper. e. Students have to submit four copies (One for supervisor and Three for defense committee) of their Project Paper/Internship Paper within 90 days. f. Minimum sitting time with the Supervisor is at least 5 times 1 st sitting - with project proposal, 2 nd sitting-after developing questionnaire, 3 rd sitting progress of data collection. 4 th sitting with draft Report, 5 th sitting with Final Report. g. The report prepared by the students shall be submitted to the relevant Chairman of the department after having been signed by the supervisor. h. The defense of the Internship report shall be held within two weeks after completion of internship period in presence of the defense committee. i. The date and time of defense shall be announced by the concerned Batch coordination committee in consultation with concerned supervisor. j. This project paper/internship paper is graded / marked by the supervisor out of 100 marks. The student has to defend his/her thesis in front of the Batch coordination committee of concerned department, where her/his defense will be marked by the committee out of 100 marks. Then 200 marks will be averaged and graded according to grading policy. k. Any individual supervisor should not take more than three students in one session. This rule however may be relaxed up to five in special permission.
