2 WHAT IS FINANCIAL AID DISQUALIFICATION? If you are currently on financial aid disqualification then you are no longer eligible for any financial aid programs including grants, work-study, & student loans, except for the registration fee waiver (BOGW) due to your unsatisfactory academic progress or because you have met the 90 unit max.
3 SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR FINANCIAL AID 1) Maintain a cumulative (overall) GPA of at least ) Complete at least 67% (2/3) of units attempted each term and 67% (2/3)of cumulative attempted units. Note: When enrolled in 5.5 units or less, you must complete all units. - Grades of NC, NP or I are calculated as F. - Grades of CR or P are calculated as C. - Repeated D and F grades are included in your financial..aid GPA. - Repeated courses & withdraws W are included in your units attempted. * Review the Satisfactory Academic Progress Guidelines * Check Your Financial Aid Academic History
4 HOW DID YOU BECOME DISQUALIFIED? Not Maintining Satisfactory Academic Progress You have had two terms in a row (on your transcript) of either a cumulative GPA below 2.0, and/or not completing at least 67% of units attempted (dropped too many units) each term and/or 67% of cumulative attempted units. Attempted 90+ units Once you have reached 90+ units attempted/completed a student is no longer eligible to receive financial aid at San Joaquin Delta College. (This includes units from other schools.) Note: Student did not have to have applied for or received financial aid during the terms in question.
5 FINANCIAL AID WARNING You will be placed on Financial Aid Warning status after the first term in which your overall GPA falls below 2.0, or you did not complete at least 67% of units attempted each term and 67% of cumulative attempted units. Note: When on Financial Aid Warning status you may still receive financial aid. * To see your current Satisfactory Academic Progress status please log into Delta s Online Financial Aid System and Click on the Messages Tab
6 FINANCIAL AID DISQUALIFICATION You failed to meet satisfactory academic progress standards two terms in a row. Not maintaining one of the following standards two terms in a row will disqualify you from financial aid: Did not maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA overall Did not complete at least 67% (2/3) of units attempted for the term. Did not maintain at least 67% (2/3) of cumulative units attempted. Have reached the Maximum time frame allowed for financial aid (90+ attempted units). Note: These rules apply regardless if financial aid was previously received or not!
7 FINANCIAL AID DISQUALIFICATION CONTINUED Once in disqualification status, a student must raise their cumulative GPA to 2.0 and/or raise completed units to at least 67% of units attempted each term and 67% of cumulative attempted units to be in Good standing. Note: Does not apply to students with 90+ units.
8 DROPPING CLASSES If you stop attending a class, be sure to DROP IT OFFICIALLY (online or STAR)!! Don t rely on instructors to drop you. Be aware of drop deadlines. Short-term/late-start Fall and Spring classes, and Summer classes, have varying drop dates. See a counselor if uncertain. Always check with the financial aid office or contact your FA Specialist before dropping classes. * To contact your Financial Aid Specialist please please log into Delta s Online Financial Aid System, click on the Messages Tab to see name, contact phone number and .
9 REINSTATEMENT OF FINANCIAL AID A student is removed from Financial Aid disqualification and eligible to receive Financial Aid by: 1. Submitting an Appeal to the Financial Aid Office and having it Approved. If Approved, you will be placed on appeal probation. OR 2. Satisfying Academic Progress by meeting all of the following: - completing 67% of attempted term units - completing 67% of cumulative attempted units - raising cumulative GPA to a 2.0 or better - AND requesting a review from Financial Aid Please note: This does not apply to students with 90+ units.
10 FINANCIAL AID APPEAL POLICY Students who are disqualified may appeal if there were Unusual or Mitigating Circumstances that affected the student s ability to make progress. Examples of circumstances may include: death in the family, serious illness or any other reason beyond the student s control. Examples that DO NOT qualify include: poor time or financial management, poor study skills, etc. Note: Submitting an Appeal is NOT a Guarantee Approval of Financial Aid.
11 Appeal Form Page 1 Explain each Semester that you did not meet SAP.
12 COMPLETING THE APPEAL FORM Explain thoroughly your answers to the two questions. Provide enough information as to why your appeal should be approved. (You may attach a page if you require more space.) If applicable, have a 3rd Party Statement completed (by doctor, therapist, etc.), and/or attach relevant documentation. Meet with a counselor who will complete an updated Student Education Plan. (Which needs to include at least the current semester and next semester.) * Type your responses to the questions by Completing the Online Appeal form. If you print the Appeal form you can type your answers and attach a separate page. If you must handwrite your answers, please make sure your writing is legible.
13 NEXT STEPS Make a counselor appointment on-line or at the Counseling Center Monday Thursday after 2:00pm. Arrive with your completed Appeal Form to your counseling appointment or you will need to reschedule. If you are an EOPS or DSPS student you may also meet with your counselor from that program. Note: Be sure your forms are complete before meeting with a counselor no blank forms!
14 NEXT STEPS (CONT.) After meeting with a counselor, you will then submit your Appeal form with ALL supporting documentation to the Financial Aid window in the DeRicco Student Services Building. You will receive a response in writing within 2-3 weeks notifying you of the decision. (During busier peak times this wait could be longer.)
