TLL 641 Introduction to Semantics ( ) Introduction to the meaning of the text and word formations, history of Semantics as a science, its pioneers, founders, masterpieces and developers, an examination of the texts and books written and published in Turkey using the methods of Semantics, an analysis of Structural Semantics, Hermeneutic Semantics, Generative Semantics and Cognitive Semantics, etc. OPTIONAL COURSES TLL 603 The Historical and Contemporary Sources of Turkic Language( ) The masterpices of Turkic written language and researches on these masterpieces. The today s investigations and their characteristics thandling Turkic language from the beginning to the presnet time. TLL 605 Lexicology ( ) The words of a language. The capasity of languages. Relations which influence word capasity of a language. Relations taking place among languages. Idioms, proverbs, concepts, metaphors. The base of Turkic language and loanwords. The processes of worddeath and wordsaving. TLL 607 Language Policy of Chardom Russia and Turkic Language( ) The language policy of Russian during Cahrdom Period starting after the conquest of Kazan Tatar till the Revolution in The condition of Turkic dialects under the control of Russian governmet. The change in general Turkic literary and

2 colloquial language and its effects on Central Asian Turkic people, their culture and social structure. The characteristics of changes and the role of language in this changes. TLL 609Comperative Phonetics and Morphology of Oghuz Kipchak Group(3 0 3 ) The phonetic and morphological similarities and differences between Oghuz dialects (Turkish, Azeri T urkish, Turkmen Turkish) and Kipchak dialects (Kazakh, Kırghız, Tatar Turkish). Investigations of some texts from these dialects and a comperative analysis of the characteristics taking place in these sample texts. TLL 611 Altaistic Theory I ( ) The history of Alatistic theory, comparison of languages in Altaic family regarding phonetics and morphology (vowels, lamdasizm, rhotasizm, formation and development of suffixes,etc.) TLL 613 Comparison of Phonetical and Morphological Aspects of Old Turkey Turkish and Ottoman Turkish Tetxs (303) A comparison of the texts of 13th-15th centuries and the texts of 16th -19th in terms of writing system, phonetics and phonolgy. A determination of the similarities and differences of the time and an examination of the texts with this regards. TLL 615 Introduction to Literary Tetxs of Contemporary Turkic World ( ) An introduction to the classical literature of Central Asian writers and poets. An examination of the texts from contemaporary Turkic literature aoutside of Turkey. In this respect, an analysis of some crucial novels, poems and dramas of Central Asian and other Turkic literary men handled. TLL 617 Sociolinguistics ( ) The socio-cultural dimentions of language handled. The realtions between language and geography, language and human being, language and sex, langauge and age, langauge and social strata, language and ideology. The history of

3 language, the characteristics of language, the functions of language in society, language death, language differences, language types,etc. handled. TLL 619 History of Linguistics and Theories of 20th century: individuals, schools, samples ( ) The history of languag science, the birth of modern linguistics in 20th century. Schools of language science, methods, linguists, etc. handled. The uppermost individuals studying language such as Platon, Descartes, Aristo, Panini, Sibeveyhi, Scaliger, Schleiher, Rask, Grimms, Bopp, Johns, Humboldt, Saussure, Bloomfiled, Chomsky, Tesnier; schools such as Port Royal, Frankfurt, Prag, etc. handled. TLL 621 Siberian Turkic Dialects ( ) An investigation of the dialects of Siberia, a comperative study between one Siberian dialect and Turkish. Investigation consisting of phonetics, morphology and syntax. An examination of the text from these dialects and Turkish. TLL 623 The Theories of Classical and Modern Literature After Tanzimat I ( 3 0 3) An investigation of the topics taking place in rhetoric and theory boks written after What is literature, whatis the characteristics of literary tetxs, what is the place of literary texts in fine art? The definition and explanation of concepts of rhetoric, methopor, utterence, literary, etc. handled. TLL 625 Historical Novel in Turkish Literature I (3 0 3) The concept of novel. The history of novel in world literature and Turkish literaure, the developmenet of Turkish novel. The concept of historical novel, its history, content, methods and topics, the place of historical novel in Turkish literature and its development. TLL 627 Theory and Criticism in Modern Turkish Poetry I (3 0 3) An investigation of the Turkish poetry with its movements and the features of these movements from Rupublican Era to the presenet time.

4 TLL 629 Investigations of Anonym Turkish Folk Poetry (3 0 3) A definition of anonym Turkish folk literature, its limits, the genres and forms in Turkish folk poetry. The places of Turkish folk poetry today in Turkish literature, its functions in cultural transformation from society to society or from generation to generation. TLL 631 Investigations of Turkish Folklore I (3 0 3) An examination and explanation of folklore as a science, the history of folklore in the world and in Turkey; investigations of folklore and its working places, methodologies and techniques in the fieldworks; the construbition of folkloric studies to the national culture. TLL 633 Investigations of Minstrel Literature I (3 0 3) An abridgement of minstrel tradition, an investigation of works dealing with Turkish minstrels and its tradition, an examination of the relations between classical poets and mystic folk poets, the condition of today s folk poets and minstrel tradition, an examination and comparison of Turkish minstrels and Turkish world s minstrels. TLL 635 The Uppermost Individuals in Classical Literature I ( 3 0 3) An examination of Turkish Classic Literature s uppermost poets such as Necati, Fuzuli, Baki, Zati, Yahya Bey, etc. and their masterpieces in different perspectives. An analysis of their works and a comparison among others. TLL 637 Investigations of Tetxs Written in Prose in Classical Turkish Literature( ) An examination of the Turkish Prose coming into being and developing between 13th and 19th centuries, an investigation of its features and some crucial works in terms of writing system, language, structures; the types of prose, poet biograpy books, histories, chronicals, etc. handled.

5 TLL 639 Classical Biography Books in Turkish Literature (3 0 3) An observation of Poets Biography Books called Tezkireler in classical Turkish literature. An examination of the important ones and reading and analysing the texts from these books. TLL 645 Comperative Literay Works of Turkic World ( ) A comparison between literary texts from Turkish literature and literary texts from Turkic world; an examination of movements, literary genres, topics, writers and poets from different Turkic countries and societies. TLL 647 The Tradition of Oral Literature of Turkic World ( ) An observation of Turkic world s oral literature, an examination and analyzing some important folk products such as the legend of Manas and Kocacaş, tales, proverbs and idioms, short stories such as Dede Korkut Stories and its variants in Turkic world. TLL 649 Posmodernist Condition and Turkish ( ) A history of modernism and postmodernism, differences between these two and features of postmodernism in the world, effects of postmodernism in the West and in Turkey on the cultures and languages, an analysis of postmodernism regarding Turkey and Turkish, the problems against Turkish and its relations with postmodernist understanding. TLL 651 Semiology ( ) An introduction to Semiology/Semiotics, its history and masterpieces, uppermost theorits, movemetns and its methodoly, its are of study, etc., an investigation of semiology in terms of language, role in society as a communication tool. TLL 653 Generative-Transformational Grammar ( ) An introdution of the theories coined by Noam Chomsky in the second half of the 20th century called Generative-Transformational Grammar including Government and Binding Theory, an application of these theories into Turkish.

6 TLL 655 Terminology in Turkish Folk Literature (3 0 3) An investigation of the problems of the methodology handling Turkish folk literature, examination of some crucial studies regarding the problems, comparison of the terminolgy of Turkish folk literature with the studies done in the world. TLL 657 Cultural Foundations of Classical Turkish Literature ( ) Examination of the sources of Classical Turkish poetry, dtermination of these sources, classification of the works regarding the foundations of the poetry, history and cultural dimentions Arab, Persian and Turkic soiesties, effects of Islam and Islamic religious sects and mystical schools on Classical Turkish Poetry, examination of religious concepts, methods, forms and structures of the religiocultural classical literature. TLL 659 Literary Schools in Classical Turkish Literature ( ) Discussion of the concept of school in classical Turkish literature, members and works of these schools, examination of some crucial individuals of these schools such as Şeyhî, Ahmed Paşa, Necatî, Zatî, Hayalî, Bakî, Fuzulî, Ş.Yahya, Nailî, Nef i, Nabî, Neşatî, Fehim-i Kadim, Şeyh Galib, Nedim, Yenişehirli Avnî. TLL 661 Folk Story Narration ( ) Folk stories and their characteristics, Turkic world s folk stories, relations taking place between mytology and folk tales, classification of folk tales, today s condition of folk stories, tradition of legends and folk stories and realtions between Manas and other legends. TLL 663 Religious-Mytstical Folk Literature Studies ( ) Definition and brief history of Islamic mysticism, its content and its concepts, examination of the literary text in this field, genres and forms, investigation of the biographies of the mystcal poets and their works beginning in 12th century.

7 TLL 665 Homour and Satire in the Modern Turkish Literature ( ) The aim of this course is to find out the reflections of the homour in literature as a device of expression, to clarify the homuor and satire elements in the literary Works from the time of Reformation to the present day and to find the their connections with the social and historical structure of the society TLL 667 Homour and Satire in the Classical Turkish Literature ( ) The objective is to introduce and investigate the distinguished Works of literature in the canon of humour and satire and to find out their reflections of elements of humour and satire which are important components of Turkish Classical Literature.

SPRING SEMESTER COMPULSORY AND OPTIONAL COURSES AND THEIR CONTENTS: COMPULSORY COURSES COURSE CONTENT: TLL 602 Advanced Ottoman Turkish II (3 0 3 ) Understanding and analysing of classical Ottoman Turkish texts written after 16th century onwards. OPTIONAL COURSES: COURSE CONTENT: TLL604Comperative Phonetics and Morphology of Oghuz-Kipchak Group II(30 3) Investigation of phonetical and morphological similarities and differences between Oghuz Group (Turkish, Azerbaijan Turkish, Turkmen Turkish) and Karluk Grou p (Uzbek and Uyghur Turkish) Turkic dialects, examining the texts from these dialects, an application of the rules determined in these texts. TLL 606 The Forms of Conjugation of Turkish ( ) In Turkish there are 9 moods and 3 double-conjugated verb forms which totally are 12 conjugations. Transformation in moods are also important. An examination of these verb forms and a comparison of standart Turkish and its dialects in this respect. TLL 608 Altaistic Theory II ( ) The history of Altaistic Theory and its developement, its methods and limits regarding Turkic languages and other related languages. An examination of Altaic consonants, lamdasizm, rhotasizm, formation of suffixes, etc. TLL 610 Language Policy of Soviet Russia and Turkic Dialects ( 3 0 3) An investigation of the history of Soviet Russian and Turkic societies and Republics, language policies of Soviet government and Communist Party and its leaders such as Lenin, Stalin, Khurschev,etc. and Cedit Movement and its effects in Central Asia regarding Turkic Culture and Turkic Dialects, Alphabet reforms of Soviet Empire and devolopment of modern Turkic dialects such as kazakh, Kirhgiz, etc

9 TLL 612 Turkology in Turkic World ( ) An observation of the studies done in Turkic world by Russians and Turkic researchers in Chardom Russia and Soviet Empire in Central Asia beginning in 19th century, an examination of the works written outside of Turkey regarding Turkology and comparison of these studies in terms of methodolgy and contens. TLL614 The Theories of Classical and Modern Literature After Tanzimat II(3 0 3) An observation of the topics taking place in the books of modernist theory after The definition of literature in these studies, aesthetics in art and literature, the effects of actionmen and theorists, literay style and its problems, genres and movements, methapors, features of classical and modern rhetoric. TLL 616 Historical Novel in Turkish Literature II ( ) An investigation of the works considered historical novels, analaysing their forms and contents, classification of the topics handling in these novels, a theotetical examination of these novels regarding their plots, characters and real times. TLL 618 Theory and Criticism in Modern Turkish Poetry II ( ) An observation and classification of the genres and works written after the Foundation of Turkish Republic, movemets and periods, masterpieces and umppermost individuals, literary styles and language. TLL 620 Investigations of Minstrel Literature II ( ) Introducing of the studies handling old minstrels, examining of the folk literature anthologies, classifying the genres of oral tradition, investigation of biographies and monographies regarding the Turkish minstrels, introducing the representatives of modern folk literature tradition, examining of the poems from uppermost folk poets. TLL 622 Investigations of Turkish Folklore II ( ) An introduction of Turkic Legends and investigation of the features of Turkic myths, tales, tarditional filk stories such as Dede Korkut, an explanation of the legends taking place in Turkic world, old Turkic poetry, an observation of religious books and non religious books influensing Turkic tradition from different societies.

10 TLL 624 The Uppermost Individuals in Classical Literature II (3 0 3) An investigation of the classical master poets such as Nef i Nabi, Nedim, Şeyh Galib, evaluation of their works with respect to styles, topics, genres, methapors, similes, etc. TLL 626 Methodology in the Studying of Literary History (3 0 3) An examination on the methodoly of the study of historical-literary men and their works, an introduction to the books handling the literary men, a step by step presentation of the methods which should be done in writing these type of books. TLL 628 Investigations of Poetical Texts (3 0 3) An observation of the features of 16th century classical books (Divan and Mesnevi), examination of the peculiarities of classical poetry, analysis of the texts such as the texts of Taşlıcalı Yahya, Zati, Fuzuli, Hayali Bey, investigation of the poets of mathnavits of the century and their works. TLL 630 Turkology in the Era of Republic ( ) A general looking at the studies taking place in the era of Republic reagrding Turkish, features of these studies at the beginning, an observation of the simlification of Turkish in this era and transformation of Turkish from old one to new one, language policies of the governmet, analysis of the works handling the language policies. TLL 632 Studies of Turkish Dialects ( ) An examination of the history of studies on Turkish Dialects, today s condition of these kind of studies, comparison of the studies written in the past and present, determination and evaluation of these studies to form a map of Turkish dialects in Turkey. TLL 634 Syntax of Oghuz Group Turkic Dialects ( ) A morhosyntactic studies of the dialects of Oghuz Turkish, a comparison of the sentence structures of the group members, pharses and their functions in a sentence, modifications and places of the modifiers in the phrases and sentences.

11 TLL 636 Language Policies in Post-Soviet Turkic Republics and Turkic Societies ( ) A brief history of language policies and language conditions in Chardom Russia and Soviet Russia, the effects of the policies of Russian governments through the new established Turkic Republics, the conditions of Turkic dialects in post Soviet era after the independence, language policies of new Turkic governments such as Kazakh, Kirghiz, Uzbek, Turkmen. An analysis of alphabet reform and its importance among other Turkic countries, studies of Turkic languages and establishement of the new standart languages. TLL 638 Turkish Syntax ( ) An analysis of the structure and classifications of Turkish sentences, sentence elements, pahrses in sentences, places of the sentence elements in a sentence, observation and examination of Turkish sentences. TLL 640 Studies of Contemporary Turkic Dialects ( ) Phonetical, morphological and syntactical comparison of one the dialects from Oghuz, Karluk and Kipçak group with Turkish, examination of the texts from these dialects and establishment of a common rule system in Turkic dialects. TLL 642 Terminology Problems in Turkish ( ) An anaysis of the problems in creating new terms in Turkish, a determination of the rules to coin new concepts and terms, examination of the ability of Turkish in this respect, a comparison of the new-created concepts in Turkish, determination of the needs and gaps in Turkish studies regarding therminology. TLL 646 Cengiz Aytmatov and Contemporary Turkic World s Novel( ) A detaild examination of Cengiz Aytmatov and his works from different perspectives and with different literary theories, using his works as a central point and analaysing masterpieces from other Turkic Republics and societies, an investigation of the style, topic, characters, methodoly and geography of the novels and short stories.

12 TLL 648 Language and Ideology ( ) An examination of language with respect to ideology, a brief history of language studies, the reason of language use, function of language as a social and political tool, importnace of language to transfer the knowledge from one generation to other, place of language in a society to establish a national culture and national mission. An investigation of language policies and language planning in national governments and countries. TLL 650 Turkish Short Stories from 1940 to the Present ( ) An analysis of Turkish short stories written after 1940 onwards, examination of these works in terms of structure, theme, topic, plot, time, place, language and style. TLL 652 Relationship Between Structure and Material in Modern Turkish Poetry( ) Analysis of Turkish poetry with respect to the structure, form and materials written after the First Constitutionalism (Tanzimat). TLL 654 Basic Concepts of Rhetoric ( ) A brief history of rhetoric from Greek philosophers to the present, examination of approaches to rhetoric in Europe and America, explanation of the concepts unsed in rhetoric, a comparison of rhetorical concepts and terms used in classical and modern Turkish literature with ones used in the West, establishment of a rhetorical perspective in Turkish literature studies. TLL 656 Problems of Turkish Folklore ( ) Observation of the condition of Turkish folkloric studies, comparison of folklore with ethnography and paleontology, determination of the folcloric studies as an independent discipline among other social sciences, analysis of the smaple text related to the filed. TLL 658 Folk Culture Studies ( ) Explanation of the oral sources of Turkish folk culture, examination of folk story, folk tale, folk beliefs, folk meteorology, folk remediness, etc., investigation of folk dialects,

13 proverbs, idioms, riddles, rigmaroles, countings, etc., analysis of sample texts, determination of are studies. TLL 660 Genres in Classical Turkish Literature ( ) Examination of the books regarding different topics and different important individuals such as Prophet Muhammed such as Books of War, Books Desribing the Prophet, Satirical books, Books of Stories of Prophets, Books of Forty Words of the Prophet. Analysis of the sample texts from these kind of books. TLL 662 Classical Text Analysis and Theoric Approaches to Text Analysis( ) An introduction and analyses of the old methods used to examine classical Turkish poetry such as Ali Nihat Tarlan s, determination of the newly established theories in order to investigate classical poetry from different perspective, examinination of modern literary theories and application of these theories into classical tratdition. TLL 664 Literary Concepts ( ) To display the function of literary term in constructing methods. To define the literary terms and concepts tahat are used in the analysis and research of Turkhish literature and examine related examples. TDE 666 Drama Analysis ( ) The objective of the course is to analyze the theater texts which is an important branch of literature and to investigate the Turkish Theatre Literary Works from the time of Reformation from the point of criticism. TDE 668 Critical Approaches From Tanzimat to Cumhuriyet ( ) The objective of this course is to find out the thematic ground and ideas of the literary Works since 1839 and to investigate the movements, trends, ideas that affect the literary life profoundly with the connection of the movement of westernization after the time of Reformation.
