2 WHAT IS PRACTICAL LEGAL TRAINING? T he first essential step to becoming a lawyer in Australia is to complete a law degree. On completion of a PLT program you are awarded a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (GDLP). The award of the GDLP makes you eligible to apply for admission as a legal practitioner in your state or territory.
