Meet Danielle Taylor PRESIDENT S ASSOCIATES Welcome Back to School Scholarship Danielle is in pursuit of a Communications Degree with an emphasis in Journalism. She wants to reveal to the world what has been swept under the rug so that changes can be made. Danielle faces many challenges in her everyday life; but she views these as opportunities for growth and a chance to change the world. Danielle has volunteered at the Baja Animal Sanctuary, Oceanside Clean Water Project and with Rebuilding Together. She maintains an impressive 3.5 GPA here at Palomar College. Danielle is described by her boss, Scott Pearson, as a positive role model She is able to encourage even the most meek students to come out of their shells and flourish into A students by showing them what it is like to become a leader. Meet Daniel Avila PRESIDENT S ASSOCIATES Vocational Program Scholarship Daniel has selected Alcohol and Other Drug Studies as his area of study at Palomar College and hopes to work professionally with clients struggling with substance abuse and chemical dependency. Daniel is a second generation Mexican American whose parents were not able to graduate from high school. He is excited to break this cycle and earn a college education. Daniel is a U.S. Army Combat Veteran who served in Operation Just Cause. He has a desire to give back to society and especially wants to help returning veterans and their families recover from abuse and chemical dependency. Daniel s
impressive scholarship application ranked him in the top 2% of qualified applications submitted for review. He maintains a very impressive 4.0 at Palomar College. Meet Cory Way PRESIDENT S ASSOCIATES Scholarship Cory has always been sure of one thing in his life he wants to help people, especially those who can t help themselves. So he has selected a major in Human Development with an emphasis on Special Needs. Cory postponed going to college directly out of high school, instead choosing to work at a day program for mentally disabled adults and making four mission trips to Africa. Cory currently works part time at his church where he is in charge of the music ministry. This is Cory s second year at Palomar College and he maintains an impressive 3.7 GPA. Meet Kaleanne Moore PRESIDENT S ASSOCIATES Leadership Scholarship Kaleanne is the first on both sides of her family to complete high school and to attend college! Kaleanne registered for science classes at Palomar College with a goal of eventually becoming a doctor. She will transfer to UCSD as a microbiology major. Kaleanne
has done extensive volunteer work at North Coast Church, Palomar Pomerado Hospital and Rady Children s Hospital. Meet Dana Mays PRESIDENT S ASSOCIATES Osher Scholarship Dana is an Art major at Palomar College and wishes ultimately to obtain a bachelor s degree in Fine Arts and Creative Writing. She wants to pair the two disciplines to form books and scripts with vivid illustrations and thought provoking, original storylines. Dana has an extremely positive attitude, is self motivated and hardworking. According to Ken Joudrey, Palomar College art instructor, Dana demonstrates much talent and potential exhibits a sense of perfection and willingness to do whatever it takes to create a strong piece of work and is a pleasure to work with individually and in a group situation. Dana has maintained a 4.0 GPA at Palomar College for three consecutive semesters. Meet Dawn Anderson PRESIDENT S ASSOCIATES New Opportunities Scholarship
Dawn is a natural researcher and has selected Legal Studies for her educational degree. She would like to transfer to UCSD to complete her coursework, become a paralegal and eventually earn a master s degree. The President s Associates Scholarship is the first scholarship Dawn has ever won and she is very proud of this accomplishment! Dawn s English instructor at Palomar College noted that she is a natural leader, with openness to hear others but with selfconfidence to voice her own opinions. Her interest in the themes we studied and her participation in class discussions truly contributed to the class. She has both wisdom and integrity qualities that are essential for any legal professional. Meet James Royston PRESIDENT S ASSOCIATES Welcome Back to School Scholarship James is a Marine Corps veteran who has served three deployments in Iraq over the course of five years and has witnessed first hand many traumatic events. His career goal is to become a nurse in a VA Hospital where he can help fellow veterans with debilitating injuries. James has done very well at Palomar College, maintaining an impressive 3.88 GPA.
Meet Depreice Chase PRESIDENT S ASSOCIATES Leadership Scholarship Depreice s area of study is American Sign Language. She is working towards a career as an interpreter. She has a very special reason for pursuing this path. Her family was involved in a serious car accident a few years back, leaving a family member with a traumatic brain injury, sustained hearing loss and speech impairments. Those injuries forced Depreice and her brother and sister to find alternative methods of communication. This has been a challenge for the whole family and Depreice has had to grow up quickly because of it. Education is the only constant in Depreice s life and she takes this very seriously, maintaining an impressive GPA at Palomar College. She is ranked in the top 2% of all scholarship applications reviewed.
