1 , Ph.D. Deputy Director, Power Systems Engineering Research Center University of Wisconsin-Madison 1415 Engineering Dr. Madison, WI ; The Deputy Director supports the mission of the Power Systems Engineering Research Center (PSERC) in Empowering Minds to Engineering the Electric Energy System. PSERC is a National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center with thirteen university power engineering programs working with almost 40 industry and government members (1) to find innovative solutions to challenges in electric power systems, markets, and transmission and distribution technologies, and (2) to educate the next generation of power engineering professionals. PSERC also receives funding from the U.S. Department of Energy for research in electric power systems and markets. PSERC has about 15 on-going research projects principally supporting about 50 graduate students working for about 25 university researchers. The PSERC university research community has about 75 members in power engineering, economics, industrial organization, operations research, computer science, etc. Professional Experience Deputy Director, PSERC. July 1998 to August MSB was a consulting firm focusing principally on public policy in the electric and gas utility sectors. August 1992 to June Taught university courses in public utility policy, electric system planning, and managerial economics. Organized, advertised and spoke in professional development programs in cooperation with the Wisconsin Public Utility Institute. Co-Director, Wisconsin Public Utility Institute (WPUI). July 1987 to June WPUI was housed in the School of Business at the University of Wisconsin. It provided public and for-fee programs principally on public utility policy issues in electricity, natural gas and telecommunications. 4 Student Support Activities Dennis Ray Page 4 Working with a team of IEEE PES members to implement a $10M national scholarship program for undergraduates (U.S. citizens and permanent residents) interested in power and energy engineering careers. The program will include a new mentoring service: PES Mentors for Students. Website: Maintaining PES-Careers U.S. & Canada, a free on-line career service serving about 800 students and 200 employers in the U.S. and Canada. Building GOLD member participation in providing services. (Website: Collaborating with PES members in Region 8 to implement PES-Careers Global that will serve students enrolled at institutions of higher learning in Region 8 (North) and employers providing job and student career experience opportunities in Region 8 (North). This service is envisioned to expand worldwide after PES evaluation of this Region s experience. Facilitate a timely flow of information on industry/government issues, job opportunities, new research, etc. to about 400 PSERC students at 13 universities via as well as to some 800 students using PES-Careers. Organized IEEE PES first International Job Fair for Students at its 2009 General Meeting.
