Defensive Driving Saves Lives, Money and Your Company s Reputation. HOMPSON DRIVING DEFENSIVE DRIVING
Vehicle Collisions Hurt Your Business. You do everything possible to improve your bottom line. But are you doing enough to prevent potentially costly vehicle collisions? The truth is, most adult drivers lack the proper training to avoid accidents. Thompson s professional driver evaluation and training courses are a responsible and effective way to reduce the painful and costly results a collision can inflict on both your employees and your company. Safe Driving is Good for Business. If you could do something to make your employees safer, both on and off the job, wouldn t you? Traffic crashes are a leading cause of death and injury for all adults. Even employees who don t drive a company vehicle still commute to work, often encountering dangerous road conditions and heavy traffic. Statistics show that employees are more likely to miss work from an auto injury than a severe illness. And dealing with even a minor collision can become a major distraction, impacting an employee s productivity. Even experienced drivers develop bad habits over time. Our courses identify problem areas and provide training to make students better, safer drivers. Our Courses Help Drive Insurance Costs Down. Both liability insurance and health insurance premiums are affected by claims. In cases where an employee in a company vehicle causes injuries, liability exposure can be in the millions of dollars. So it stands to reason that helping your employees become safer drivers will pay dividends. Thompson Driving performs professional evaluations of your employees driving skills. Our instructors are trained experts in identifying problem areas and then teaching the appropriate skills to correct them. How Traffic Collisions Drive Up Costs. Anytime a fleet vehicle is on the road, both the vehicle and the cargo are at risk. And when a vehicle lands in the shop due to an accident, it can cost a lot more than a simple repair bill. Collisions reduce capabilities and effectiveness, resulting in lost time spent on rescheduling and reconfiguring backup vehicles. Providing the best defensive driver training not only benfits your employees and your company, it makes for a safer community. Your Company s Reputation Rides with Your Employees. Whether they are safe or unsafe, courteous or discourteous, the community takes note of how your employees drive. By making them better drivers, Thompson Driving courses protect your most valuable resource your company s reputation. We provide training to help drivers spot potentially dangerous situations and quickly react to avoid accidents. These valuable skills are taught in the classroom, in one-on-one driving instruction on a closed course, and on public roads. Our comprehensive training covers everything your employees need to know to protect themselves, your property and your company s reputation.
The True Costs Of Motor Vehicle Crashes To Employers: All organizations rely, directly or indirectly, on transportation to perform their services. Whether you have a fleet or not, your employees commute to work--often on dangerous roads and in bad weather. Employers and employees are put at risk every time they get behind the wheel. The most important step an employer can take to reduce this risk is to provide all employees with comprehensive defensive driver training. Your employees need to learn specific skills to ensure the highest margin of safety while behind wheel. The Long Term Impact of a Crash. The true cost of a vehicle collision includes factors that may impact your company for years afterward. Even minor collisions can result in major property damage. The increased insurance premiums, loss of vehicle use, time lost to rescheduling, and vehicle repair costs add up quickly. The damages expand with medical costs and liability exposure. If an employee causes a fatal accident, resulting lawsuits can run into millions of dollars. 61% of of surveyed business executives believe their companies receive an ROI of $3.00 or more for every $1.00 they spend on improving workplace safety. Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Cost Analysis on The Economic Impact of Traffic Crashes to Employers Employer s Costs per son Involved in a Crash Cost to Employers per Million Miles of Travel (MVMT) and Costs per On-The-Job Highway Crash and Injury Employer s Motor Vehicle Crash Costs There s no need to take our word for it. The NHTSA concludes: Developing a proactive traffic safety program is one of the best ways to control costs from workplace vehicle crashes.
We Promote Defensive Driving on Every Level. Comprehensive Training from the Classroom to the Road. Receiving a classroom defensive driving course and completing a multiple-choice written exam won t ready your employees for dangerous driving situations. Proper preparation requires being put into actual situations and taught the necessary reaction skills. Thompson s three-tier instructional program prepares students with both classroom knowledge and real-life driving experience. The results can be lifesaving. Level One: In the Classroom Thompson Driving classroom presentations are powerful and convincing. We take your employees beyond traffic laws and stopping distances. The underlying purpose of Thompson Defensive Driving courses is to teach drivers how to think behind the wheel. Participants learn how to anticipate dangerous situations and what actions to take to avoid them. They also learn how to react and take control of dangerous situations that can t be avoided. Our dynamic classroom courses can be customized to meet your specific needs, or to cover every aspect of driving safety. From the effects of weather to driving distractions, our courses help your drivers avoid dangers and make better decisions behind the wheel. Thompson Driving School provides defensive driver training for all types of vehicles. Level Two: Range Course Driving Instruction Thompson s Range Courses are thinking courses rather than speed courses. Participants hone their knowledge and skills of handling a vehicle on a closed-course driving range. This one-on-one instructor training is done in an environment free from the danger and stress of public roadways. A driving instructor demonstrates, explains and reviews each maneuver and its practical applications. The instructor then evaluates the participant s positive techniques behind the wheel, pointing out any areas in need of skill development. Written evaluations are made available to employers. Backing Maneuvers: Students learn how to safely maneuver vehicles in reverse through course-designed scenarios. This training teaches the proper use of mirrors and the necessity of physically turning your body to see all possible dangers when reversing a vehicle. These techniques are critical in preventing vehicle crashes and injuries. Forward Weight Transfer This course prepares the student both mentally and physically to maintain vehicle control in abrupt lane change maneuvers. Students drive through a slalom course of cones, on both dry and wet pavement. This requires the driver to change direction quickly and experience the weight transfer of the vehicle. The student learns their personal and vehicle capabilities and limitations.
Defensive Driving Training is a Cost Effective Employee Benefit. Right Wheel Alignment In this part of the instruction, students pass the right wheel of their vehicle through a set of stakes on the ground. This teaches them to judge the location of the right wheel of the vehicle to avoid obstacles and road shoulders. Another benefit of this skill lies in knowing how to position a vehicle to avoid standing water when driving in the rain. These water troughs, created by the weight of vehicles over time, are a common road hazard. Full Range This course teaches the employee how to drive safely on any road surface. Students experience vehicle handling and weight transfer on five types of road and off-road surfaces. Participants learn how vehicle dynamics are affected by different surfaces during emergency braking, off-road driving and while driving on obstacle courses. These skills can be critical since work vehicles often have to travel over variable road surfaces on county roads, through construction zones and with two wheels on the shoulder. Level Three: Driver Evaluations on Public Roads In this course, a certified driving instructor evaluates a participants driving habits and techniques behind the wheel of a vehicle. These evaluations occur on a combination of city streets, state highways and interstate roadways. When specific problem areas are identified during the course of the study, instructors provide additional training as needed. What Thompson Driving Offers: Customized driving courses specifically designed for your employee s driving scenarios. Convenient Services our courses are always held at a location convenient for you and your employees. A three-tier defensive driving course using the Probability Method. Thompson Driving developed this training after analyzing more than 10,250 vehicle accident reports. Hands-on training to take students through a series of precision maneuvers to learn the proper reactions in defensive driving situations. A driver evaluation test to analyze the student s understanding of course material and driving ability. The driver evaluation route is conducted on local streets and highways, encountering on-the-road examples of driving laws and defensive driving techniques. One-on-one driver evaluations and instruction on both a closed course and in actual traffic driving situations to make defensive driving a learned habit.
