1 K.R. Mara CV and References 1 KYLE R. MARA, PH.D. [email protected] Postdoctoral Fellow Department of Biology, Room 207C Temple University 1900 N. 12th Street Philadelphia, PA Lab: Cell: EDUCATION August 2010 Present: Postdoctoral Fellow. Temple University. Bipedal Locomotion on Unsteady Surfaces. Advisor S. Tonia Hsieh. August 2010: PhD Biology University of South Florida. Evolution of the Hammerhead Cephalofoil: Shape Change, Space Utilization, and Feeding Biomechanics in Hammerhead Sharks (Sphyrnidae). Advisor Philip J. Motta. May 2003: BS Biology (Summa Cum Laude with Distinction) (Marine Emphasis, Minors: Environmental Studies and Geoscience) Southeast Missouri State University. RESEARCH INTERESTS My research interests can be broadly defined as vertebrate functional morphology and biomechanics. My dissertation research investigated the evolution of the hammerhead shark cephalofoil and the consequences this extreme head morphology has on the feeding apparatus and sensory systems found in this group. While, my postdoctoral research explores the biomechanics of bipedal locomotion in a bipedal lizard species and how it negotiates slippery surfaces while maintaining dynamic stability. PROFESSIONAL POSITIONS 2010 PRESENT Postdoctoral Fellow, Temple University Graduate student representative to the faculty of the Department of Integrative Biology 2009 Graduate student representative on the Plant Biologist search committee Member of the American Elasmobranch Society s Student Activities Council Research Assistant, NSF grant # IOS University of South Florida : Teaching Assistant, University of South Florida (courses: Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II [5 semesters]; Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy [3 semesters], General Physiology [3 semesters], Biological Processes [2 semesters], and Biodiversity [1 semester]) Ichthyology Laboratory Technician, Southeast Missouri State University PUBLICATIONS MARA, K.R.
