Course Aims This course aims to develop students' competence in using an integrative intervention model for direct social work practice, by familiarizing them with an eclectic or selective application of relevant and innovative practice theories and skills in practice settings.
2 2. Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to: No. CILOs Weighting 1. Recognize and apply the different theoretical approaches in 30% direct social work practice; 2. Describe and analyze the integrative eclectic model in direct 30% social work practice; 3. Reflect on and evaluate the issues and skills required in 20% applying the integrative eclectic model in direct social work practice; and 4. Be able to engage in a life-long innovative and creative practitioner in professional learning. 20% 3. Teaching and Learning Activities (TLAs) (Indicative of likely activities and tasks designed to facilitate students achievement of the CILOs. TLA2 - Case discussion (supplemented with video materials) and role play - Case examples will be presented to illustrate the ways in which different theoretical approaches can be applied in an integrative eclectic model. Role play will also be used to facilitate students learning in the application of practice skills from different theoretical approaches to critical incidents in direct social work practice. TLA3 - Tutorials - Students will be required to bring in narratives, written accounts, case study reports, and video/audiotapes as objects of collaborative inquiry in small groups for monitoring, re-presenting, reflecting, and evaluating one s practice experience. TLA4 - Problem-based learning in groups - Students will be required to present group projects on the application of the integrative eclectic model in selected case situations.

AT2: Group project, class presentation (30%) - Students will be divided into groups of 5 to 6 students. They will select cases identified from their fieldwork placement and analyse the ways in which different theoretical approaches can be applied in an integrative eclectic and innovative way. - They will also select a critical incident from the practice case and demonstrate how practice skills from different theoretical approaches can be applied in the helping process in an innovative way. AT3: Paper (50%) - Students will have to write a paper based on the case presented in class. - The paper should include a deliberation of i. the theoretical approaches relevant to the practice case; ii. the ways that an integrative eclectic model can be applied to the case; and iii. a critical reflection on the students own practice and the gaining of selfknowledge as a reflective and creative practitioner. 5.
