Every year mental illnesses costs the Canadian economy an estimated $51 billion (at least) annually in absenteeism, disability claims, and medical services used.

10 Goal of the Standard # 1 Psychologically Safe Workplace A psychologically safe workplace is: o one that allows no significant harm or injury to employee mental health in negligent, reckless or intentional ways. o one in which every reasonable effort is made to protect the mental health of employees [due diligence].

15 Building the Standard Human Needs Human needs when unmet or thwarted, become risk factors for psychological distress, including; o security/physiological; o belonging; o social justice; self worth; o self esteem; o self efficacy or accomplishment or autonomy. The workplace plays a large part in daily life and is important to the maintenance of these human needs. 15
