KG, Technical Institute for vocational Training The main goal of DUAL Education, as it is written down in the German Professional Education Act, is to provide Professional Performance Competence (Handlungskompetenz). This competence comprises technical, methodological and social competencies. The workshop gives an insight to the didactic approach. It introduces, how professional (industrial) media can be used for a professional training, which simulates industrial practice and industrial processes shaping DUAL.training-solutions! Best practice examples are introduced from the following different professional fields: Part I Action based Training in the field of Mechatronics and Automation The workshop will present a training concept for engineers, technicians and workers in highly automated production plants. Part II Shaping the future with experts for renewable Energy The Production and distribution of renewable Energy are very important challenges of the future. This workshop presents an sophisticated approach to train the experts of the future Part III Hands on Training for Automotive Service Staff The workshop will present an practical related approach of Trainings for automotive service staff. The workshop will give an overview how to use training equipment in action based training arrangements. It would be of interest to discuss with participants the requirement and the needs of well trained technical staff in Thailand how to strengthen the thai training system by adapting the experiences of DUAL vocational solution. It will inform about: the German System of Education related to the higher education; the schedules and curricula and the principles of the DUAL.study program; the connections between the theory in the university and the practical training in the industry. Moreover the workshop will discuss the practical implementation of DUAL.study courses in Automation Engineering at the Duesseldorf University of Applied Sciences. The main focus will be in the discussion the demonstration of the DUAL.study in the training&research factory Fab21 and the application of digital media in order to obtain and force workplace-oriented DUAL.competencies for the students. The following topics could be of interest for the discussion with the workshop participants: an efficient approach to make the DUAL.study system and the University of Applied Sciences system be understood by interested representatives of the Thai Educational System; how to design a Thai-German University of Applied Sciences with DUAL.study courses; how to design a DUAL.bachelor with a German Accreditation in a Thai-German institution; is it helpful to organize a special DUAL.training for Thai trainers, instructors and teachers in a co-operation between Germany and Thailand and how could it be implemented. Currently tablet computers are comprehensively handed out to primary students in Thailand as well as in other countries. Also in vocational education, these technologies could play an important role in the future. Though, there is a lack of knowledge about how they should be used in a didactical context and if they significantly will improve the quality of teaching and learning. The workshop aims to discuss this topic and tries to collect ideas about if and how new mobile and social media technologies can support high-quality vocational education and later on, if there could be projects being carried out to research and promote these technologies in vocational education. We are currently running an international media survey, where we comprehensively are surveying the media usage of students in higher education. This survey can be a base to proceed from and is aimed to be extended into the vocational education area. Currently about 40 universities from 11 countries are participating. During the last year also 3,000 undergraduate students from six Thai universities were surveyed. This sample represents the first comprehensive database about the use of tablet computers for learning in Thailand and how this use correlates to the quality of learning and the learning outcome. The students were asked 150 questions about their media usage for learning and about other relevant factors (learning behavior, media skills, cultural background, educational biography etc.). A focus of the survey lies on mobile technologies and the web 2.0, but also other areas (traditional print media, e-learning, library services and other) were asked for. Dr. phil.
