Furthermore the student receives an allowance, the amount of which is established by the board. International Office is responsible for the administration. Na Wang (a master student in Geography): It is my great honour to receive a Science@Leuven Scholarship as a student majoring in geography at K.U.Leuven. Without the grant, I would never have had such a wonderful opportunity to study with so many distinguished geographers, to communicate with innovative minds from all parts of the world and to be exposed to diverse cultures in central Europe. Science@Leuven paves the way for the fulfilment of my dream to improve our living space as a geographer. Peter Lievens, dean of the Faculty of Science: In particular for the better foreign students, the possibility of winning a scholarship works as a recruiting tool. By attracting them we want to raise the level of our master s programmes even more. Our group of PhD students is already very international, which is a valuable asset for the quality of our research. Do you think it is important for the Faculty of Science of the K.U.Leuven to encourage motivated and talented foreign students to come and study at this university? Because not all of the promising scientists have the financial opportunity to show their talent, they are offered a chance to apply for a Science@Leuven Scholarship. 3 Help them by contributing to this fund, as a company or privately! Contributing to the fund is an excellent way to support society. You can donate a named scholarship to honour someone who is dear to you. Have you lost someone you love? You can commemorate this person by giving a less fortunate scientist a chance for a brilliant future. If you yourself are an alumnus, a contribution to this fund may show your appreciation for our programmes, our faculty, our professors and their assistants. Supporting this fund as a company not only gives you visibility to our alumni, employees, and students, it also is the ideal way to show your goodwill to society. With a full named scholarship, there is a possibility for individual cooperation. Support what you believe in, invest in the future and support this initiative.

4 How does it work? The fund addresses itself to strongly motivated candidates, who have not yet studied or worked at the K.U.Leuven before and achieved a bachelor s degree with distinction (a degree that gives them the right to start a master in sciences) at a foreign university. The students are selected based on quality. After graduation, they can become an ambassador for the programme or can make contributions to your company. The programme committee of the programme the student applies for, gives the permission to start and judges the applications. They also rank the applications that are witheld for awarding the scholarship. The applications are then judged and ranked by the selection committee, which is yearly appointed by the board of the fund. Finally the board awards the scholarship.
