6 Meet Professor Sati Sadhal Professor of Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering University of Southern California B.S. in Engineering Science (Nuclear Power), U of Toronto, 1975 M.S. (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Toronto, 1976 Ph.D in Engineering Science from Caltech in 1978 Elected fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME),1996 ASME James H. Potter Gold Medal in Thermodynamics, 2007 Monograph: Transport Phenomena with Drops and Bubbles, Springer, 1997 Research (over 100 technical publications): o Fluid dynamics, and heat/mass transfer. o Boiling heat transfer, phase-change phenomena, nuclear thermalhydraulics o Evaporation and condensation, surfactants, multiphase drops and bubbles

7 Meet Dr. Isaac Maya Director of Research National Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events (CREATE) University of Southern California Over 26 years experience in academic and industrial research and development, product development and technology transfer and commercialization. Has been CREATE s Director of Research since its first year, and has served in key executive management capacity during the start-up of three new major university centers. Fellow in NASA s Center for Program/Project Management 10 inventions and over 100 publications

11 Nuclear Power in the U.S. In 2007 Congress agreed to provide loan guarantees for nuclear power; some 28 applications for new stations have since been filed President Obama pledged in his state-of-the-union address in January 2010 to build a new generation of safe, clean nuclear power plants There are just two new American reactors projects (total of 4 reactors) under construction, neither with full regulatory approval. 17 Application Criteria for MS in Mechanical Engineering (Nuclear Power) Undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Science) in engineering, math, or hard science from a regionally-accredited university To be competitive, a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is recommended International students should refer to the USC Graduate Admission website for information on alternate grading scales: Satisfactory scores on the general portion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) that are less than five years old Please visit viterbi.usc.edu/msdegrees for complete requirements
