List 3 preferences (in order) on supplementary form 3. Complete & submit application (to course convenor ONLY) by Monday 17 th November Wait for course convenor regarding preference choice 5. Write up research proposal in consultation with supervisor(s) & submit back to the course convenor (as well as admissions) by closing date (likely 28 th Nov) 6. Apply for scholarship (likely 28 th Nov) 7. If applying after this date, contact course convenor

10 The Research Proposal 2 pages: Name, ID of candidate Names of members of supervisory panel Proposed thesis title (concise and descriptive) Description of the project Aims and objectives of research Context for research Review of the relevant research/literature demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the topic demonstrates the candidate's ability to organise and judge academic material provides a framework for the research Justification for the project: why is this project important? Methodology - methods and justification. Why was method chosen? How will method provide the data needed? Intended outcomes, can include dissemination, impact, implications and limitations of the research. Location of research, with reasons for choosing this location What is needed from University - resources including equipment, software and funding for field trips. Recognition of any approvals or permits required, e.g. UC Committee for Ethics in Human Research Budget (in general terms) Timetable (in general terms), including expected completion date Reference list for all texts cited in the proposal Further information about research proposals (for a PhD, the honoursone is just a mini-version)
